My 8 y/o son just got interested in collecting Russian coins. He wants to pick up where I leave off -- from 1849 to 1917. I may be forced to let him sell some of my duplicates to get the funds needed. If it is possible to trade, it is even more fun for him.

I paid 48 euro for my 1797em mule polushka, and Igors is a witness to it

Sigi, you may be right. Yesterday when I looked at it briefly, it looked like an eagle of 1779 design because the wing points extended so far.. However, I see that the wings are wider...
-
Sigi, I would not get my hopes up. To me, it is an obvious fake.
-
What is amazing though, at the 1919 sale there was a yefimok on a 1655 thaler. Too bad there was no photo...
-
yep. Speculation is that it should be over the head, but they come all ways
-
nope. is this the 15 ruble one? I do not know much about them...
-
I can. A lot of rare copper coins will not be rare anymore...
-
It is much easier to collect these in Russia. I have a handful from where I just picked I what I could for a buck or two. All ugly. Hard to find a beautiful coin here fit for collection.

There is literature in russian and english that talks about these coins... No need to guess.

Your photo is also very nice

I would say, it is still possible to revive this place. We had our share of madman, but it was always more civilized and sane than russian forums...
-
Why did this place die? I miss the nice discussions and some arguments...

At these price, only rich people can afford to buy coins. However, rich people are too busy making money, and have no time to read all this nonsense...
-
Sadly, most forum members make a very small dent in the number of coins doing back to the motherland...
-
Ok, I will play, -- who do you know?
-
Like I said -- I guess the auctioneers believe these to be real. Sigi, as a collector of 5 kop coins, do you need to see these in person to know they are fake?
-
Good question, Sigi. I guess "they" think these are real...

176(5) em 5 kop overstrike. 178(9)MM 5 kop, 1764 siberian "original", 178(7) em 5 kop with wrong eagle. These I am sure about. Also, confirmed by people who know much better than me.

1/2 Bisti went cheap. It was not that nice, otherwise I would go for it. Auction went pretty crazy, with all usual suspects present. Fakes sold for crazy money.

Still waiting...

BKB, how the coin looks now, after a few years, if you still have it?
No change. Just like it looks on the photo. Maybe a bit darker... But, I do not use that method anymore -- too unpredictable. Vinegar works much better.

Lets try this. I have a duplicate I want to trade for an equal in rarity and condition copper Russian coin that will be from the time period from 1850 through 1917.
