How will this play out???

So I placed an order last December for the 2007 Silver Proof Eagle coin. I thought it would be neat to have a nice shiny silver coin. After thinking about it for a couple of hours I thought I wasn't interested, so I canceled the order....or so the US Mint website led me to believe.

Fast forward to today and I get my credit card bill. Low and behold there is my purchase listed. So I go the US Mint's website and learn that the order wasn't canceled and it shipped 2 days later. I track the order and USPS says they received the information for it early January, but nothing more. A trip to the post office and they have no additional information either. I get home and call the US Mint. No other information either, but they do tell me to call back in a week if I haven't gotten it.

Originally I didn't want the coin so I canceled my order or at least thought I did. Once I learned that the design for the 2008 series is slightly different I decided, "Oh, that may have been neat to have," but that was a week or so after I canceled my order. Now I have this "silver" opportunity come my way and I am unsure how it will play out. I guess I kind of do want the coin now as I paid the full amount on my credit card bill today. I figure I could always sell it later down the road if I don't want it or return it once I get it.

So how do you think this will play out, will I get it or not? Was the order recalled after it shipped realizing that they made a mistake shipping my order out? I'm actually not to worried either way at this point as I know I have good standings with my credit card company and it is the US Mint I purchased from so if I never get it I know I would get refunded via one way or another.

You're are a lot braver than I, I do not like dealing with the US mint, their lousy shipping costs, lousy packaging, high prices, long wait, and miserable customer service.

It's actually my first time dealing with them, so I wouldn't call it bravery. If others have had similar problems then I can understand people paying a little more $$$ to a local dealer. No shipping costs and the product is right there.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the future with Mint Ordrs myself. I don't like everyone knowing I collect coins and especially strangers. The last order I placed with the Mint was delivered by FedX. The driver came to my door, handed me the box and said "Here are the coins you ordered". Now just how did they know what was in the box? It did not say from the Mint. It did not say coins. It did not have a Mint return address. It was from somewhere in Tennessee. Yet the driver knew they were coins. Now if that driver knew, everyone knows. So if the Mint somehow notifies FedX what is in the box, or if FedX xrays the boxes or just opens them, I don't know. But if yours is missing, I would suspect what happened.

Well, I finally got it! :ninja: This coin arrived in just one day too! I was a little worried when a couple days ago I received an email saying that my card was credited, but then I remembered that is typically how systems are setup, meaning even though a company doesn't receive a product back they typically still have to have a receive line for an item, before they can ship one out again.

So I have it. It looks nice. Now I just have to decide what I will do with it for the time being and if I will want to display it. Is it OK to keep silver out and displayed like on a shelf or can sunlight be harmful to it?

Yes. The sunlight can cause coins to sprout legs. They then runaway and are never seen or heard from again.

At least not by you.

Congrats on your newp! :ninja:

I've found it is not the sunlight that creates this effect. It is usually something called RELATIVES or FRIENDS. These two substances have tendencies to move items not intended to be moved. Those substances also can never account for the vanishing abilities of items they touch. Leaving anything that will fit into a vending machine on display is foolish to say the least.

Silver coins have the ability to sprout legs someday if left out in the sun too long? :ninja:

That's it I'm returning it. That's too much trouble to watch over! :lol

I use a secret safe that is buried deep within the earth. You have to walk 5,200 paces south from the gas station. Once at 5,200 paces you must jump up and down three times while clapping. You'll then see the ground split apart and a small door will be uncovered. Knock on the door not once, not six times but fourand a half times. When the door opens you must squeeze your way through and fight pass the water lions. Once past the water lions you'll be faced with a large 12 piece jigsaw puzzle. You must complete this puzzle within one minute. If you fail Alex Trebek will escort you to your doom. After the puzzle is complete the wall will spin around and reveal a combination lock. To the left of the combination lock you'll notice there is a groove in it, you're nose is to be inserted into this groove (It's disinfected daily and the safe won't open unless your nose is in it.). If you put in the wrong combination your nose get's the ol' heave ho. Once you open the safe you're eyes will be treated to Kris' Curious Catches. Once completed with looking at it you must close it then you can exit through a door to your right which leads right into my house.

:ninja: I don't know if I can figure out how to knock 4 1/2 half times. I might be stuck. ;)

Looks like I may have to learn what silver coins like to eat and worry about feeding it. ;)

My father ordered tons of coins from the Mint and they all arrived safely, but he lived in a rural area of Pennsylvania where people are honest.

I ordered a few coins in the early 1980's while living in Brooklyn and someone at the Post Office REALLY liked intercepting anything from the Mint. I eventually got them all after a million phone calls and post office lost mail forms but the effort wore me down and I gave up.

The Mint should really consider shipping coins in a more discrete manner, or at the least making this an option for people living in high risk urban areas.

Your father ordered TONS of coins from the Mint? I sure would have liked to see the person delivering TONS of coins. Sure must be a big FEDX person. :ninja:

Pennsylvania? No one really lives there do they? ;)

A million Phone calls? No wonder my AT&T stocks went up so much. You alone payed for a lot of my dividends.

Brooklyn? No wonder the post office treats you like that. ;)

All just kidding I think, maybe, possibly.

The package the replacement coin came in wasn't very obvious and it was sealed very well. I wonder if the first coin was wrapped in such a manner?
