syzygy
A little while ago I saw that another member (forgive me as I can't remember who) posted a two beautiful US nickels - a 1938-d Buffalo and Jefferson. It got me thinking about a weird "transition" or overlapping date type set. Have I missed any (not including gold)? Dollar 1921 Morgan and Peace For Trade and Morgan you technically have 1878-1885, but they are not really transition pieces. 1795 Flowing hair and Draped bust (1798 different reverses) Half 1836 bust / bust 1839 bust / seated you could also include overlapping seated design chnges like 1866S Quarter 1916 Barber to standing lib (good luck with that one) 1838 cap / seated again some seated overlaps Dime 1916 Barber / winged lib 1837 cap/ lib again some seated overlaps Half Dime 1837 cap / seated again some seated overlaps Nickel 1938 Buff / Jeff 1913 Lib / Buff (yeh not too may of us can get that 1913 Lib) 1883 shield / lib (two libs actually) The three cent pieces kind of fit here but they are not exactly transition pieces Cent 1909 Indian / Lincoln 1793/5 Well, I don't think I will be embarking on one of these sets anytime soon, but it's kind of interesting I think. Art
It is interesting. There are actually quite a few coins to be included. It's one of those things that at first you say to yourself, easy. BUT then WOW! Not so easy, in fact, impossible.
