extant4cell
I always thought that this stamping of talers with Russian stamps was connected somehow with illegal activity, something like laundering the stolen or acquired through illegal business talers through Russia, swapping them for Russian silver... But they look now bloody nice!
BKB
There is literature in russian and english that talks about these coins... No need to guess.
alexbq2
I like talers and I like wire coins, so I do admire efimoks. Just can't afford one with a pedigree, and won't risk buying one without. At any rate, I read somewhere (some forum post) that the date should stamped right above the rider's head like on Igors' coin. BKB's coin has the stamp to the right of the rider. Is that OK? BKB
yep. Speculation is that it should be over the head, but they come all ways

I don't believe it talks much about why the group of talers with early dates is so small...

BKB
What is amazing though, at the 1919 sale there was a yefimok on a 1655 thaler. Too bad there was no photo...
IgorS
This is not the first time I hear of it, but do not remember where I read about it. Briefly looked at Spassky and Zander, but did not find the info...
STEVE MOULDING
Hess 160 - May 5th 1919, if I'm not mistaken. Sammlung von Russischen Münzen aus altem Bestize. Very scarce catalog Can't comment on whether the Yefimok is present, but if it is Hess 1919, then this is likely the sale.
