alexbq2
A few members wanted to see a close up of this coin. A nice overstrike kopeek. The date is bit unclear, I'll say 1788. But it would be nicer if it were 1789

one-kuna
The common type - netted. Brekke (1977) listed it as a not overstrike... Very interesting... Picture in Brekke is taking from Georgii Mikhailovich... What others think about this fact... Not listed in Brekke supplement as well... Very interesting... STEVE MOULDING
May be it is MM mint - just realized, but not MM letters visiable on coin... I think most 1788 no-mint Kopeks are overstruck. See for example those in the Aalborg sales Sale I Nov 2006, Lot 2198 Sale III Nov 2007, Lot 2110 The Brekke example is overstruck as are coins from Moneti & Medali, Conros, and Markov. Yes, it could be an MM, but it doesn't have to be. Steve

squirrel
Wow! more than a double! I see at least 4 coins there. Possibly 5. (overstruck 4 times!) Nice find, Alex! 1: Pauls overstrike (back dated to 1793) on 2: 4 Kopek Cipher 1796 on 3: 2 Kopek Catherine II 4: 4 Kopek 1762 Peter III, not to mention what the coin went through before Peter III got a hold of it! It must be paper thin! what does the edge look like?

It must be paper thin! what does the edge look like? Very possible, but I can't see any stars or cannons from the 1762 4 kopeeks. It is as flat as a pancake, and the edge is gone (all I can see is slight bumps) - I don't think it was re-edged on the last overstike.

alexbq2
Another interesting overstrike. The dragon has some lovely wings The coin appears to be struck on top of an interesting double struck 1755/6 kopeek. The edge is netted, unusual for this type. The date is unclear 1758 or 1759? alexbq2
Yes, I know. The date is weak, but I can see the top circle of an 8 or a 9. The auction ended about a week ago. Now in my collection.
