I have Hamvention in two weeks, and then I have to pick up tickets to the Senior Open, which is being played here this year -- I get to see the guys my age play, hitting a golf ball the way it's supposed to be hit! Should be interesting -- John Daly just turned 50, wonder if he can get it together on that tour. He still bangs it a mile.

They came in a couple rolls of dollars I picked up at the bank. One two weeks ago, then two in one roll last week. The rest were mixed pre-2012 Presidentials, miscellaneous Sacagaweas, and the stray SBA.

I thought they stopped releasing the Presidential dollars to the public from 2012 onward, but in the last two weeks, I've had a Cleveland, a Teddy Roosevelt, and a Wilson, all Denver mint. Weird. Anyone else seen any of these?

Australia's managed a couple beauts - this A$2 struck on a washer: Plausible, if the washer is roughly the same size as the blank, I can imagine one falling into the bin. Harder to explain is this Australian 20c piece struck on a bolt (and a normal 20c blank):

If I had nine grand to spare, I might consider that. I just noticed that the Chinese forgeries aren't even current issue coins -- I see Seated Lib quarters and Mercs and a Wheatie in there. Well, no, I take that back, I see some Washington quarter reverses there... but the eagle back, which of course hasn't been around in almost 20 years now. And aren't those nails in remarkable shape for being anywhere from 20 to 180 years old...

Heh, I'll be very surprised if PCGS grades any of those. I did go back and look -- the nail-dime was expected to go for $10,000, and ultimately went for $42,300. Wow.

Well, they're not used to a copper strip in the middle of their money; it should be white metal all the way through.

But they don't need approval to do it in gold? That's odd. I still say they should be reissued as general circulation pieces. Yes, they can even have the mint mark on the obverse, if they insist. What's the point of commemorating something if the commemoration is only available to a few? The main downside I could see to making them circulation issue is that modern coins are engraved so shallow. They'd look appalling at what's laughingly referred to as 'relief' on today's coins. They need to be properly sculpted, not mashed flat.

Not in gold. They should be reissued as they were originally minted -- or even better, given a clad issue for circulation as well as collectible strikes.

Went to the bank to get rolls of quarters to feed the laundry. One roll had a 1994 Bermuda 25c piece in it. And I innocently asked if they had any half dollars. They had several rolls. Don't see those very often!

I'd also add that typically when I order coins on eBay, they are either already slabbed and graded like my Ikes, or things where the grade doesn't matter like my birth year set. I'm not sure that I would be comfortable adding to my unslabbed Jeffersons based on photos only.
