  1. I bought a lot of nine Swiss Schutzenfest medals from Heritage a few months ago but apparently do not have the free time that Zohar has...

Here is the first medal in the Richter book, an R-01b. (1849 Aatgau, 45mm silver)

Looks to have been cleaned long ago and is starting to retone with some nice colors.

You'll probably see this on eBay one day as I bought the lot for the five Holy Freres medals.

  2. I used to own a fairly extensive collection of Dutch paper money dated 1916-1955 and had a very nice 1000G note with an interesting serial #.....

Sadly I sold it all to concentrate on other interests. :(

Happily most of the notes went back to the Netherlands where they rightfully belong.

If you are interested most of the notes can be seen here:

  3. My boss went on his honeymoon last month with his new wife and I worked 12 consecutive days. As a reward I bought this after thinking about it for two months.

    1902 Fleurier (Neuchatel)

The medal is absolutely perfect and fully deserves the MS-67 grade. The sheer size and high relief almost qualify this as sculpture, especially the obverse.

The scratches seen on both sides are on the holder, not the medal. You would think that a $400 certified coin would ship inside a plastic slab protector before it is put into a cardboard Safe-T-Mailer. You would be wrong. When are coin dealers going to understand that the glue on the inside of the Safe-T-Mailers is gritty and toxic to the surface of NGC slabs? If I sell a slabbed coin it ships in a slab protector and in a clean ziplock. I wish (insert names of several major auction companies and coin dealers here) would take more care in shipping their coins. Fire the kid in shipping and give the job to an old guy who will treat every coin as if it were his own.

Ok, end of rant. I love the medal but find the holder most annoying. But there are two ice cold pale ales in the fridge and that will cheer me up... =)

  4. 1910 Bern (R-263a) GOLD medal spotted on eBay.....

Way overpriced and (unless it's just a very bad scan) not only cleaned but the obverse has been polished to the extent that many details are missing.

Nevertheless, if you have the money and want a gold Bern, this is your chance. Make him an offer.

Feel free to use this photo of mine to compare the obverse details.....

  5. Thanks.

When I originally found out about this R239c a year ago, I was intrigued to say the least. I knew I would like to have it and tried to make the purchase but the deal did not transpire right away; now a year later I am the proud owner. I am more than happy and this rare and beautiful schützenfest medal is a welcome addition to my collection.

I still remember the day this surfaced last year, and as much as I wanted it for my collection it really is WAY out of my price range. I hoped it would land in a Moore collection and I see it has.

Congratulations Rod on an uber-rare find!

  6. I have wanted this Schutzenfest medal for years and while money is tight these days I jumped on it while I had the chance.

    1909 Basel Shooting Medal

    Hans Frei at his best!

If you own the Richter catalog you will find that R-132, 133 and 134 form a very nice Hans Frei set.

Now that I have the R-132 I only need the R-134.

    Maybe Zohar has one...
