  1. There is a Link button on the tool bar right below font Size.
  2. I don't like your coin. Reminds me of a bunch of Polushkas recently sold by Numismatic Lanz on eBay. I don't know their provenance, but they don't look right and I don't think they could even be Novodels.
  3. Maybe, but looks like Kolyvan Mint was in synch with Ekaterinburg. Ekaterinburg introduced the above style somewhere in 1778-1779, and then replaced it in 1788. Kolyvan used it from 1781 to again 1788. Which I think suggests some more global or "prescribed from above" reason for the change.
  4. Here's another example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261013533384 Fake 5 kop 1851 BM, seller slade001 coin has been banged up to look circulated.
  5. I don't know, but I doubt that there would be a 4th matching pair. Does anyone know why it was necessary to update the eagle design at Ekaterinburg mint every 10 years?
  6. A bit off topic, but this is possibly a Russian shooting (or hunting) medal:
  7. It's definitely a Superb coin, it just looks so perfect and even that Novodel jumps to my mind.
  8. Isn't this a Novodel? P.S. I kinda like Novodels. If anyone wants to get rid of their unwanted ones - I accept donations
  9. I recall making a gag prediction that soon people will start going to bidding wars over replicas. I didn't think that would actually happen, until now: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574633083&toolid=10001&campid=5335826004&customid=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&icep_item=110808260414
  10. I didn't find anything quite like that in Bitkin. It is conceivable that this is a fake meant for circulation, although I think those make more sense for the later period of Peter's coinage when the weight of the coins was reduced.
  11. Also this curious piece got sold some time ago. Any thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/370570530040
  12. There was another piece up for an aucton: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330669086838
  13. I wonder who won this coin? http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574633083&toolid=10001&campid=5335826004&customid=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&icep_item=320805486190
  14. Is this for real? Did they really find an 1811 2 kopeeks with an 1810 reverse? Or is somebody playing tricks on us - again!!!
  15. Another fake. This time 1855: http://cgi.ebay.com/260812756283 seller - 1ritaval12
  16. The winner actually had a feedback score of 500, but he/she was competing against 2 bidders with 0 feedback. Which leads me to speculate that there was shill bidding, and that it was effective.
  17. $7100 sale price, largely driven up by 2 buyers with 0 feedback. Seems very suspect!
  18. Does anyone think this Gangut to be real? http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574633083&toolid=10001&campid=5335826004&customid=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&icep_item=160604470386
  19. Holly COW!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!! I think Rarenum here owns the other mixed up die pair. That's definitely a jewel you've got there!
  20. Looks cast IMHO it is a copy.
  21. A 96 zolotnik silver bar with mint marks! Not quite a coin but none the less: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574633083&toolid=10001&campid=5335826004&customid=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&icep_item=290572031537
  22. I think it has something to do with NGC color designations: RD, RB, BR,... Not sure what they call yellow. But it is considered to be better than dark chocolate patina.
  23. Yes, the color of the coin was very attractive!
  24. It's definitely tricky! When I saw the coin it was at $30 or so and I thought this is the old eagle. Then I looked at other coins, and became uncertain. There's some possibility of transitional eagles. Like eagle with one old wing and one new wing or old wings re-engraved into the new shape. At any rate, the next day it was it at $40, and I decided to put a snipe at double that price. And boy was I surprised when I saw how that auction ended. P.S. The fact that there were at least 3 snipes above $100 is a convincing argument. While I was not certain enough to commit any significant amount. You were clearly not the only person who felt inclined to do so. This definitely sways my opinion towards the old eagle. I'll save the images for future reference.
