  1. Unfortunately, this is a recent trend making quality replicas / counterfeits for profit. Something that is very difficult to stop, but should be outlawed. Any replica must bare a mark indicating that it is a replica. Can not agree more...
  2. Hey, "*" still works on German eBay!
  3. It's a nice find still, Sigi. Nice examples gxseries! Bobh - I am stunned... speechless... and my hat is in my hands... before I throw it in the air with excitement!
  4. ScottO, nice eagle on 2 kopeks I really like that type! Steve, thank you for sharing, nice double strike! It's an illegal migrant, but a nice one, let it stay... Sure, it is a recent acquisition too, I love it: http://omnicoin.com/coins/1014223.jpg Please share with us once you get it. Wish you well in your hunt! And here is one of my very well aged eagles, even in this condition it looks pretty cool, a bit like a legendary old-timer on a hunt again: there is something mysterious about it...
  5. I mean mature not in the age or collection sense, but in a professional collection sense, meaning that it is their profession to deal numismatic artifacts or collect them for the museum collection. Plus, and that is definitely mistake of my mind set, I was talking about Russian Novodels only. It is possible to have an odd Russian Novodel coin in your collection, but to collect them and actually to have a collection of Novodel coins is extremely rare. My apologies if I offended anyone, it wasn't my intention. I know many people that collect Russian coins for a very long time and have beautiful collections, but have not a single Novodel, and it's not because they don't like them. Some just choose not to care about Novodel coins until they come across them, or even if they do as these coins too beautiful and spoil the look of the rest of the collection somewhat as they may over shine even the most precious pieces. On the other hand not to have them in your collection is not something that would make your collection less valuable, particularly if you only collect items that were released into circulation. So, if you are a mature professional collector or just a serious one, my respect to you too! I am in this category as well, and certainly I don't feel disrespected. We all are ... Cheers!
  6. I'd like to add my 5 cents here: Fact 1: No lawless activity of others will ever change the definition and the nature of Novodel in spite any inappropriate use of this word. Example: One can call a piece of paper with "20 dollars" written on it - "$20", but irrespective of that the piece of paper will always be a piece of paper that you could not buy anything with, while with a $20 note you can always buy $20 worth of goods. If somebody somewhere fooled someone, and paid for the same goods with a piece of paper calling it $20 and that becomes known to others, it doesn't mean that they will stop accepting $20 notes, or that they will be exchanging $20 note for only lets say $10 worth of products. It would mean that they will be more careful next time, checking every $20 note for authenticity from now on... Same with Novodels. The official limited strike with improved dies or limited re-strike with original dies makes the resulting coins Very Rare, Extremely Desirable and sexy. Fact 2: Generally Novodel coins are rare and a lot more expensive than original coins rare coins. Due to the fact of they small numbers and their extremely outstanding condition. Fact 3: Practically no one starts their collection with Novodels, simply because due to inexperience they can not tell Novodel from a copy, however skillful copy or counterfeit and because their all believe in their luck and represent an easy target for con-masters who sell them fakes. Unless you are VERY reach and can afford buying coins from some of the most respected auction houses (forget eBay)... Here a few examples of Novodels that I found for your pleasure so you understand what I am talking about: http://www.numismat....iew.cgi?id=1264 http://www.numismat....iew.cgi?id=1262 http://www.numismat....iew.cgi?id=1268 http://www.numismat.ru/cgi-bin2/cat_view.cgi?id=1273 and you saw the denga already... My respect to Novodel collectors. The chance is that we probably have none of them here on this forum apart from Halfdollar. These collectors are usually very mature and professional collectors / dealers... I am scared to ask how much Halfdollar paid for these two. I know these are the old posts, but worth keeping them...
  7. Category browsing is the only thing we can do for now... however sad it may be for us...
  8. I agree about 5 k KM eagle. The one in my example is from 1795 KM and the eagle looks most natural on it... Do you have anything to share? Please do if you'll have some time... Nice red Denga, you can see the lines from the box too! This is a nice example of baroque 5 k eagle, very clear! I like that one! And the one on "Слава Империи" is amazing , shame they didn't put them on coin (a part from baroque, I guess)... The drunken eagle looks very happy, must have had a good night out! The armavir 3 roubles' one looks a bit sad...
  9. I think it all happened sort of at the same time, all at once! within the space of a nano-second! I believe that this was the sequence though.... as funny as it may be, I didn't think, my mind simply reacted to the picture my eye sent to my brain...
  10. Here are some examples in copper: Look at this brutal lizard looking eagle, don't you just love it? Double-headed Godzila! This eagle has a BIG heart and wings for a big hug... It's a protector. I my opinion this is the best looking in beauty and grandeur eagle on 5 kopeks. And here we are just out of the water and ready for a fight! Coins are meant to be shared with others. Please share eagles from your collection here...
  11. Please share your examples of the best looking eagles from your coin collection. The most beautiful ones, or some funny or unusual defects, etc. with your little comment. Here are my examples in silver: I personally think this is one of the best looking eagles in silver roubles. Another silver eagles on a small coin I just love. One of a kind, "masonic" type of an eagle. Not a bad example for 20 kop. What an unfortunate defect! The poor left head looks like a jester now ...
  12. I was looking for KM on eBay, but I didn't specify "KM" in search. In eBay, like in many auctions, the search result shows small pictures only, where the details are not visible, just like in the preview in my original post, hence my comment. I enlarged the pictures and found the traces of previous coin. You can not see them in the preview picture. Sigi, thank you for the info.
  13. Unfortunately not... and it is driving me crazy!!! I wrote to them, but no reply. This is absolutely ridiculous. They expect us to put all the years in now, but the thing is that the search engine has the character limit and all dates for Imperial Russia do not fit... I tried! ... Write to them, the more complaints they receive the more chance they will do something about it. ... For now, I just scan all coins for (Russia, russian, russland) etc... They fail us again! How can their marketing do these changes without consultations with users? eBay management has always been a mystery to me and still is... This is stupid, but for now we stuck with spending 100's of hours more per month scanning through their list. I think I will take a break soon from that... Just chill at the beach and let all these worries wash off... and then take my business somewhere else, if they don't want it... Until they start loosing money they will do whatever they want, I'm afraid.
  14. Thank you. I was looking for it for a while....
  15. Sigi and all, can you tell me, in your opinion the coin I got has small of large EM? I tried, but couldn't figure it out. Somehow they look about the same in here: This in netted: http://www.numismat.ru/cgi-bin2/cat_view.cgi?id=2081 and this is roped: http://www.numismat.ru/cgi-bin2/cat_view.cgi?id=2082 But they both have their EMs about the same size, which looks small to me...
  16. Yes Alex, Sigi, Squirrel and GX, I agree with all of you. That's what I am planning to do once I’ll get it. It would also be a shame keeping this coin in a slab with such a silly description... It was a sheer luck that I’ve checked the enlarged pictures of this coin to find what it really was when I was going through the list of the auctions. On a small picture, the eagle looked much nicer than on usual EMs, looked a bit like KM to me, so I went for a closer look to find this... I guess if it has a roped edge it would be a nice bonus but considering that EM letters are large (I think, can someone confirm please?) it is an unlikely chance. That would triple it's price in one go though, and it would make it an original Siberian KM or Crimean TM, but I doubt that even though I am hoping for a surprise.... These 10 kop 1796 are very rare, even as overstrikes, as they never went into circulation as far as I know. I’ve read somewhere that they were possibly getting them ready for invasion (to use on invaded land in a different country, like India or something...) and once the plan was abandoned they re-stroke them back to backdated 5 kopeks to evade suspicions. I’m glad you liked this coin! Sigi, I just looked through your collection. Thank you for sharing! You have an impressive collection of large 5 kopeks. I just fell in love with 1766EM (oversize), 1770EM (beautiful date), 1784KM, 1791EM, not to mention your Siberian collection and a 4 kopeks 1762!!! VERY NICE! I wish I could touch and hold them...
  17. How do you like this beauty? My new pick on eBay...
  18. Looks like white copper At least the seller stated "Here you can bid on a beautiful coin from Russia with 1907. The coin is probably (very well) a replica!" in German...
  19. I am not into medals. Bought them for a friend of mine, but don't like the way they look. Metal looks too new, sort of like fake 1852 BM 5 kopeks, if you know what I mean... So, I'm not going to invest into the medal catalogue. But if you know of any on-line, would be appreciative you you could share the info.
  20. Two medals from Poland - Anyone can tell if they are genuine http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281018879738?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281018878063?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  21. I bought this one (1766): http://www.ebay.com....=item2576dae9b9 The 1767 is in good condition I think. If you play with that image you can see it has nice grinish patina, but the foto on eBay is horrible, I agree... Still $2500 for it was a little too much I think! I'm sure you will find another one, possibly cheaper and in better condition... Good luck!
