1. As a result of my ongoing album building of the Presidential dollar series I netted a 2012 P Grover Cleveland (1st Term) with a very light edge lettering. The edge is missing the date and the mint mark with the remaining stars and motto very week. Coin World has reported a few minus the edge lettering completely. With my find I now believe that the edge lettering machine went progressively belly up and as a result produced some coins with very light edge lettering and then some without (or visa versa). My dollar came out of a $100 mint bag purchased directly from the Mint. Anyone else with similar finds?
2. This is so typical--Just like when someone wins the lottory all of the "cousins" and shirt tail "relatives" begin appearing out of the wood work to claim part of the money. Odyssey Marine does all the research and spends all the money to find these wrecks then after discovery the countries of origin (aka Spain for one) and these other splinter groups start screaming bloody murder that they should benefit wholly. I say if they (The country or origin or the splinter groups) want the booty then they should get off their butts and find it for themselves. What a bunch of undeserving slackers.
3. Welcome rbethea, what a great history lesson! Thanks for sharing.
4. Steve D'Ippolito says: "So why were Series 1935G and 1935H silver certificates being produced well after series 1957 was introduced?" Good question, I looked in my Blackbook #35 and under the ONE dollar listings there was a comment that the 1957 notes were being printed on the "new high speed presses" Could it be that the 1935 series were still being printed on the old presses until the new high speed presses were fully integrated? I am not a "note" guy so I am just guessing.
5. Message to the US Mint. Thanks for being my "drug" dealer! Even though the presidential series is one that only appeals to certain people I for one started a collection. My thinking was that I could use the numismatic reference to the presidents as a motivator to study history. I even went as far as to start the First Ladies bronze medal collection. Yes, I bought the nice archival albums to put them all in. I keep my partial collection handy to remind me to pick up a history book now and then. So back to my original drug dealer comment---Here is how it works--you circulate the dollars (drug) at face value using the banks as easy conduits for distribution. Then slowly reduce the amount manufactured and then cut the supply off all together. The mint (forced by the government king pins) eliminates the competition (banks). The Mint now becomes the only supplier knowing that the collectors have already started thier collections. They also know that when the drug (Presidential Dollars) becomes available again they can charge a big mark up. They know that thier "clients" are now addicted and they will do anything to receive the drug. So here I sit waiting for the Mint to release the next dollar-----Addicted! Is there rehab for coin collecting?
6. My collection contains only those Euros found in auction lots purchased locally. I only keep those that are in MS condition no matter what denomination, year, or country of origin. I don't purchase Euros by themselves. I might if a really snappy design comes along.
7. I can see now that I had better start that new wing of my library for Bills books! And a new area for my soon to be added Exonumia Collection, Thanks alot Guys! Just keep posting those cool tokens and informative topics and I will be hooked in no time.
8. I like ikaros' idea---"St Gaudens Liberties on the $1-$5." or on a 1 oz silver bullion coin.
9. On the Numismatic side: Coin World has had several articles in the last year or so about the cost of coining both coins. Yes it seems that something needs to be done as far as the cost of the base metals. But there is much more about the production cost of the coins. Most items cost more today then before. Many of the root causes that drive the price of groceries, fuel, etc drive up the cost of coin production. Maybe thats were O-blab-a should look.
10. Take them and spend them at you local fast food establishment. Odds are that the kids working there have never seen a dollar coin (this at least happens in the US) and you can giggle at their ignorance of the coinage system. I get these results with the dollar and the half dollars. Best of all I have the most fun with Ike dollars even though I might be loosing some numistic value in the deal but the looks of wonderment from the cashiers is worth it.

12. Just look at the Morgan Dollar for example--popular in the west but the eastern folk had no use for them. Now look at them---very collectible--Of course the Morgan is a real beautiful coin compared to the presidential series. Regardless I am still putting together a full set in archival albums just for the "fun" of doing so! Nice photos in the other posts--where are the PCGS slabs available from?
13. Wow! Another nice series of coins!
14. Nice photos one and all! I once saw a device illustrated where the light source is at the end of a rectangular box like channel. The camera is above and perpendicular to the channel at the opposite end where there are glass panes to deflect the light at a 45 degree angle. The coin would sit below this 45 degree pane of glass and the camera above. So the light would come down the tube, reflect off of the tilted glass and onto the coins surface. Has anyone seen or used the above and if so how did it work? I was thinking of building one.
15. This is such a great post! Undertaking the task to complete a series like this must be arduous. I have to give anyone who undertakes such a task a thumbs up for the effort!
16. Hi Bill, I purchased two of these from a seller in Israel and considered myself fortunate to do so. Do you have varieties not listed here? If so would you be willing to share some photos?
17. Oddly enough when I considered the Guttag token for my avatar I wasn't aware of this post.
Today out of curiosity I searched for Guttag posts and found this discussion.
Since I have some other examples I thought I would resurrect this post.
To date I have collected 3 different Guttag store cards that are different from Bill's
listing above and may have unknowingly sold yet another different example to a collector buddy of mine.
Anyway here is a glimpse of my three examples.

I originally became aware of Guttag store cards as a result of taking the names of
historical Coin Dealers and Numismatists from the Red Book and doing internet searches.
