  1. colonials for a quarter?! wow! I really really need to get myself into a coin store sometime soon.
  2. 1919 wheatie in Fine i'd say. Now, here's a conundrum I've come across before: you're collecting coins or note for a fundraiser or a charity. You see an old coin or error note in the bin. If you have that denomination in your own pocket, I think it's fine that you switch it out. BUT if you don't, and you reaaaaaallllly want that coin/note, do you leave it or not? Or here's what I did tonight. I donated $30+ in change and bills, probably one of the bigger donations of all the ones in the dorm. I came across this 1919 cent and pocketed it. I justified it because I had already donated a ton. BUT since I donated that money with the intent of every cent going to the cause, should I feel bad for pocketing one of those cents? If that's confusing, i'm sorry. I don't know.
  3. Yeah.. very dramatic note. I swear the child looks like its forcing the lamb to open its mouth and eat the flower. He's got a mischievous look in his eyes.
  4. that's one angry looking fish.. seriously, look at those eyes.
  5. Wow... how come that note hasn't made it into your "Pretty Ladies - France" thread? I see some lookers there... I saw that note and thought "man, I really got to get me one of those." Thanks for sharing the price. My dreams are crushed.
  6. lol... I agree with Mike... I figured it out that the old man is chuckling inside because he isn't just "Uncle" to the youngsters... he's a little more than that.
  7. Agree! Stunning and vivid colors - I can only imagine what they are like in hand.
  8. I laugh because they gave the handful of Westerners at my school our own private room during ramadan. We could bring anything we wanted from home or the stores for lunch. Nothing healthy of course! Our Muslim classmates would try to break in and eat. Twas fun... I went to Qatar Academy - the richest, newest private school there. All the best families sent their kids there. Out of the 16 people in 8th grade with me, one was second in line for the thrown, another was his younger brother from the Emir and the Queen. A few others were sons of the Emir and his sisters or secondary wives. Others in the class were of the Al-Thani family too or from other powerful families. Coming in as the only westerner in my year, and being the smartest and fastest in my year was not fun for the others who were used to being the best. I experienced racism from the victim's perspective for the first time in my life. I hail from Virginia, so I've seen it from the outside plenty of times. This was my first time as one of the players... Anywho, you said you visit Doha ever so often. I'm sure you'll eventually (if you haven't already) crossed paths with QA. Boy... I could talk for hours on my time there. But I apologize to everyone who reads this thread but didn't want to read this little convo between us But if you want an exotic, exciting, and cheap vacation... hit up the Gulf States before they get too expensive or popular!
  9. Why were you there then? What was the gulf region like back in the day?
  10. Those are all gorgeous. I love the fields on the reverse of the '84. And of course the Texas commem is fantastic.
  11. Congrats on the awesome acquisition!
  12. Until a few recent packages from you and another CPer, the only foreign notes I had were from Qatar! Although it helps to have lived there for a year and my mom goes back multiple times a year for business. Though she went about a month ago and forgot to bring back some nice crisp notes.... So Qatari Riyals and a US Large Size... the only two notes I have over you.
  13. Jeez, man... Azerbaijan.. do you have any countries left to collect?
  14. Yep, I saw her before. But I'd like to see what kind of damage I'll have to do to make my mark known.
  15. Ahh... good point! sorry for the correction
  16. I want to see this Libby. Maybe if I like her I'll want to hold her in hand one day.
  17. YES! One of my favorite episodes... though I have a lot. Best quote of the episode: Free Waterfall, Sr.: Good way to avoid frostbite, folks. Put your hands between your buttocks. That's nature's pocket! Leela: Uh, I think I'll go check on Bender. Free Waterfall, Sr.: Watch that he doesn't pick your pocket!
  18. Oh the wonderful irony... Got a Bicentennial Quarter and a 1944-D Nick in the same handful of change today. I noticed the nick right away (old ones are so easily spotted) and then a few minutes later I noticed the quarter. Why irony? Look at my above post... This nickel is perfectly 3 times my age! 63 years old! So cool!
  19. I see a lot of people have Antarctica notes, undoubtedly mostly bought by tourist. Well, if someone sees a CIRCULATED note from Antarctica, I'd like to see it!
  20. That's been in circulation almost 3 times as long as I've been alive
  21. Okay, so I've only looked through the Gold Certs at the moment. They are crisp and gorgeous adn have been high on my list for a while. They are also a little beyong my budget, so I can only imagine what those set you back for. Briefly looked at them all and...man... I'm so jealous. Gah.. I need money so I can buy money! So crisp and so pretty!
  22. WOW I wonder if McD's is giving out coins as prizes with each purchase. And like their Monopoly game, you have to collect them all to get some good prize... Hey.. don't dis my idea, it's early in the morning (11:42 am)
