Ian
Here's a nice bronze i've just bought. I'm gobsmacked at how cheaply I got it (around $15) as i've seen these sell anywhere between $50 - $120. Topical, as it would be a very fitting companion piece to anyone's commemorative Franklin silver dollar. The medal: Benjamin Franklin and Jean-Baptiste Antoine Montyon by the French medallist and engraver Barre. Bronze. 41.7 mm. The two featured personages most likely struck up their friendship during one of Franklin's trips to France. Next to Franklin , it notes `Bienfaisance Du Genie. (roughly translated = Benevolence of Genius). Next to Montyon, `Genie De La Bienfasance (roughly translated = Genius in Benevolence). The reverse legend reads: `Societe Montyon Et Franklin Pour Les Portraits Des Hommes Utiles' (Montyon and Franklin Society presents Portraits of Men of Service). Art
A very nice medal. You are certainly right about it being a terrific companion to the Franklin dollars. Thanks for sharing.
