sigistenz
An ugly coin, agreed. But I have never seen a 1787EM 5 kopek with this eagle. Do old coins from Russia arrive in the West safely? Any experiences? Thank you, Sigi http://www.ebay.com/itm/281260633144?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2FEmpire-up-to-1917-%2F32477%2Fi.html%3F_sop%3D10%26_sticky%3D1%26_from%3DR40%26_trkparms%3D65%25253A12%25257C66%25253A2%25257C39%25253A1%25257C72%25253A5846%26_catref%3D1%26_sc%3D1%26_nkw%3D281260633144%26_rdc%3D1 -
alexbq2
Do you mean that it looks more like the 1778/9 transitional type? I have bought coins from sellers in Russia a couple of times, they got to me with no problems, but they were much much smaller than this. extant4cell
The heavy coins may or may not arrive quickly. Sometimes they are stopped by customs and sent back to seller with a note "no-no-no!" and a picture of a shaking index finger. All they need, after that (if brave enough) send it again, and you get it, or will never hear from them again... Never happened to me though. I received all coins from Russia or Ukraine, even if I had to wait over a month. I'd say - go for it. If bought via e-Bay and paid with PayPal, you will almost always get your money back if you don't get the item, so risk is reasonably small... BKB
Sigi, I would not get my hopes up. To me, it is an obvious fake.

Do you mean that it looks more like the 1778/9 transitional type? I do not find a similar eagle anywhere - but I will stay away anyway because the coin is not nice enough Sigi, I would not get my hopes up. To me, it is an obvious fake. I do not think so, to me it looks real but not nice enough. Thanks to all of you, happy hunting! Sigi -
BKB
Sigi, you may be right. Yesterday when I looked at it briefly, it looked like an eagle of 1779 design because the wing points extended so far.. However, I see that the wings are wider... sigistenz
Sigi, did you receive this coin yet ? Is this an original ? I did not bid - the grade was not nice enough AND I do not risk to have sent something from Russia Sigi -
