gxseries
Been looking for 1771 1 para - 3 dengi coin but it seems to be quite uncommon. Is it supposed to be a coin released for circulation or a "pattern" coin like other 3 dengi coins?
Scottishmoney
I have a few, but I will defer to the resident expert on these, Banivechi. If he doesn't appear I will have him come over to the forum for a visit.
BKB
I am no big expert, but my understanding is that all 1771 are considered patterns. However, some of them were issued in such number that makes them easy to find. Some of them are just impossible to find. Some are possible, but very expensive like 5 kop or the "cross" As to easy varieties -- I was able to buy one for like 175 in bad condition some years ago. gxseries
BKB, the coin that I'm looking for is the 'regular' para - 3 dengi. I am not sure if this was struck as a pattern. I've seen an example here: http://romaniancoins.org/1para1771.html I obtained this pattern a while ago: Did wish I had the regular one as well to make this set look complete. Also, has anyone else seen the other variety of 1772 para - 3 dengi Uzdenikov described as valak instead of valosk? Seems to be rather uncommon. Scottishmoney
But there are many modern fakes now: I bought these in a coin fair in Donets'k sometime back. I remember seller commenting since I have an accent and obviously am a foreigner that these coins are not being sold as originals. I told him I appreciate information, but I know they are fakes, but look nicer than my real Sadagura coins.
Scottishmoney
My daughter bought this coin of Para/3 Dengii several years ago, it is fascinating she would want it because she was born not very distant from where they were minted then:
BKB
the last one is not 1771 GX, I know what you are talking about -- 1771 "valak". I still think that one was a pattern. Its design was picked as the design of choice for later years, because it did not contain any attributes of the Russian authority (Cypher, etc.) I found that 1772 "valak" is harder to find -- I still do not have one. I got my 1771 "valak" from Basok some years ago in a dreadful condition. Never was able to improve it yet.

Esme
All of the Moldavian coins with the eagle and the Catherine’s monogram were not confirmed and are patterns. Still some of the coins have got into circulation, they are rare.
BKB
GX, as I promissed -- 1771 valak. As I said, the coin is real ugly...
DJB
The 1771 issue seem illusive. The 1772 and 1773 are the most commonly found for both denominations, but are usually in low grade. The 5 Kopeks that show up are either in such poor condition, they are not worth the effort, or are fakes. Here are a couple Sadagura pieces from 1772 and 1773 from my collection. gxseries
I posted this thread a couple of years ago and forgot about it until recently. I have been lucky enough to find an example and didn't realize how hard it is look for such example. Most of the examples of this particular year that I have seen online are corroded and are not common at best. This is probably one of the better examples that I have seen. This has a nice die crack and has a minor die rotation error. Presenting 1771 1 para - 3 dengi

gxseries
Turns out this coin looks a lot better than most of my other Sadagura coins! Should upgrade them when I get around to it. Updated my site of the collection of various Sadagura coins. Have tried to change the color of the coins to match what they really look like. http://gxseries.com/numis/rus_imperial/sadagura.htm

gxseries
Reviving an old thread since this is related. If you know this type of coinage inside out, this is one coin that will stand out. This is the variety described as "valak" instead of "valosk". Took me a bit of time to recognize this due to it's condition. While the condition is really poor, I know very well that this is one that will not appear in the market any time soon (unless one is prepared to pay an arm or a leg) And this is the common variety As for the importance of this coin, the "valak" variety may have been unapproved (I don't know too much of it's history) and hence was changed later. What is more interesting is how worn this coin is. Considering that this was struck in gun cannon metal - details may have been weak initially however I have never seen one this worn - many are either corroded or in poor condition but not till this worn. To my observation, it seems that out of all the para - 3 dengi coins, 1772 dengi is the most common followed by pattern 1771 para. The 1772 para "valak" would be significantly harder and the 1771 "valak" seems to be nearly impossible to find in any condition. Of course, this does not include the 1771 pattern para with the four monograms which is truly the hardest. Nevertheless, I'm a happy man
Art1.2
I really like it. There's a coin that served its purpose well.
