sandy3075
I've got a couple of 1975 proof sets with Bicentennial trio of quarter, half dollar and Ike. I am wondering if they are silver or clad and if they are clad where all the silver Ikes went . and how can I make sure (other then weighting them) to get myself a silver one? Sorry for the dumb question , but I am a real newby in US coins.
ccg
Look at the edge. The silver clad ones would have a pinkish looking billion centre sandwich. A regular nickel clad piece would have a bright orange/red copper.
sandy3075
So I will open these sets, thanks for the quick answer.
thedeadpoint
If they are still in the mint package, I think it would say SILVER if they were silver. If they are out of the mint package, ccg is right. Look at the edge. I may be wrong about point no. 1. Good luck!
Mark Stilson
The 1975 proof set only came in clad with all the other coins. The 1976 three coin set was 40% silver. Here is one of the sets. 1976
