Hello from Austria.

I have one small information for all interested.

In 2010 a new book will be published.

It will be about the early russian platinum roubles, their history and all.

Including an catalogue for the coins, pre-strikes and varieties and also auction-results.

Hows about the interest in that?

The only thing is: it will be first only published in german language.maybe later also in english.

Welcome to coinpeople, "platinrubel" !

Every issue of book related to russian numismatic was, is and will be WELCOME always as to my opinion !

Of course, english and russian text would be better for myself, but I take German as a challenge !

Thank you for posting this info !

Please inform us when a book comes out ! :ninja:

Welcome to Coin People, platinrubel! :ninja:

I'm sure that such a book would be a welcome addition to the existing literature such as Severin's gold and platinum book. I'm not sure how many buyers it would find, though, since platinum coins are very expensive, and I don't know how many collectors can afford to collect this series. One thing is certain: you will have a larger audience if you publish it in English first, or perhaps English and German together.

Good luck!

Sounds interesting. I have two books in German by Willy Fuchs (the famous collector of Russian coins) on platinum coins and medals of the world, but they are just catalogs. If I may, a suggestion - since there are so many fake platinum coins out there, you should have a chapter on counterfeit detection. Auction results are interesting, but I am not sure they will show the true picture, since the market is all over the place lately. In any case - good luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

hello, sorry for answering so late.

many thanks for welcoming me.

i am not a collector of russian coins in general, my collection is about all platinum coins.

of course, my collection is not complete, especially with the platinum roubles it is very hard.

the new russian coins and the bullion coins, thats no problem to get them.

the book will include the history of platinum (short overview) the history of platinum coinage, incl. the bollmann-strikes of the united states, and the early fakes of goldcoins.

then the history of the platinum roubles, their end and the try to rebirth them in the 1860´s including a small catalogue. also a chapter about novodel and counterfeits will be included.

hello again.

i know it is long time ago that i was here.

in the meanwhile, the project "book about platinum coins" is still in progress.

it will be bilingual german and english.

there was more time nessesary than i thought for research and reading and collect all the information.

but now, the german part is coming to an end. then will the translation follow as soon as possible.

the book/catalog will contain only all known platinum coins, struck between around 1750 and 1899.

also included are all known contemporary counterfeits of goldcoins, struck in platinum (spain, england, france, italy, etc), the russian platinum roubles, patterns and medals. also all known restrikes of historic coins (this are not too many).

some of the coins and medals/patterns are only to find in museums, today.

i hope, coming to an end someday.

Fascinating... :art: ... Thanks for the update! (PS - please send me a personal message if you need help with any translations.)

BTW ... your original post mentioned only Russian platinum coinage. I wonder what influenced the decision to expand to other countries (and counterfeits)? Pretty big field! Considering how difficult just the Russian numismatic area is in platinum, I hope that enough consideration is given to Russian platinum fakes ... these are sometimes very hard to identify.

yes, it was very interesting, only researching at the small field of theese three russian coins.

counterfeit detecting will also be a part of the book.

i did know from the beginning, that the work will contain not only the russian coins. (as i wrote on Nov 5th 2009)

but because of some problems and less of time the project was "on ice" the last 2 years.
