Just registered on the site.

I found an old coin in my garden and it appears to be a Henry VIII groat.

After cleaning I noticed it has the word COPY stamped into it!

Picture below shows the side in question, so ... real or fake?

This is an obvious fake. No sharp detail, a soapy texture and appearance as well as the word copy emblazoned on the reverse.

Yet you found this in your garden??? :ninja:

Certainly did, have been digging the garden and watered the dust down and noticed it lying there when I washed the dust off.

I have compared it with pictures on the web from other coin sights and it looks very similar.

Why would somebody copy it? Are the originals worth a considerable amount?

This is a genuine halfgroat which looks similar;

However yours could never pass off as a genuine example. It looks to be a pewter copy.

It might not be a Henry VIII Groat as it depends on the obverse and the size. Either way, it's a fake and not worth much at all.
