siluska Posted December 31, 2008 Report Share Posted December 31, 2008 i collected them for a period of time, the pre 1944 ones... i have a catalogue, the 2007 Janusz Parchimowicz and i will have a look what he says about the printing location. as far as i remember, some notes are signed by the engravers. siluska Posted January 5, 2009 Report Share Posted January 5, 2009 Parchimowicz dont say anything about the printing location of the notes, except for the unissued series of 1939( all printed in England) looking at the pictures( for each type), i have noticed that only one is for sure designed by french artists and probably printed in France. that is 10 zl 8 lutego 1919( it is Pick 54=Parc.87, p. 131) that was drawn by A. Giraldon ands sc. by Deloche and Clement. the same note, with same design, but the date 1924( pick 62= Parc. 88, p. 132) has no engreavers name. but it is basically the same, with minor difference about the colors and the cartrige on back. the 1919/1924 series of zl. of high value* 100, 500 and the "wzor" of 1000 and 5000 are printed in GB at W&S.( and maybe 50) they have a different design. for me, the small values, by design, are prinded in France and the big ones in GB. also i thing that notes like 10 zl 1926/1929, 20 zl1926/1931 and 50 zl 1925/1929 have much similaritis with the french ones from that time. Those definitely have a French feel and inspiration to them, and I am myself looking for nice crisp uncirculated examples of all of them. These are P-69 - P-71 i the old Krause catalogue. I agree, P69 and P71 definitely have that "look" for French notes. The issue I have is finding the definitive source of information to determine the artists and printing company for those (and other) notes. Data seems hard to come by... Good luck with your hunt! Dave I think the source will likely be in Polish, if it is available anymore at all. Unfortunately I have a heck of a time reading Polish, it is one of the few European languages, Finnish and Hungarian being the others - that I cannot make any sense of whatsoever.
