constanius
Gilt copper. Oval Cartwheel 2d. 46mm x 37mm x 3mm 32 grams. No idea when or why this was made. Tribute Medal to the Cartwheels?
NumisMattic2200
Very interesting...somebodu must've really loved their coin to do that. Have you also heard of the 'smugglers twopences' that were hollowed out to create a space for hiding things back in smuggling times?.... YeOldeCollector
Perhaps gilded to pass it off as a gold proof?
constanius
I did see one of the cartwheels that screwed apart, I wish I had brought it. Yes the gilding could be to deceive, but the oval shape is so unusual. I am just puzzled about it and hope someone has seen it before and has some info. An oval cartwheel, whoever heard of such a thing, the cart would go up and down!
