tabbs
GALAPAGOS coin setlmao, who's gonna use it, Iguanas ? Ha, the Galapagos Islands have a population of 20,000 (officially - the actual number of people living there is probably quite a bit higher), thus quite a few more than, for example, the Cook Islands. And yet the Cook Islands issue coins ... well, have collector pieces issued. And think of the Vatican. But I don't believe either that these are in no way "official". I mean, the islands are part of Ecuador - and that whole country does not have its own currency but uses the US dollar ... Christian
banivechi
the islands are part of Ecuador - and that whole country does not have its own currency but uses the US dollar ... I didn't know that! No more sucres?
tabbs
I didn't know that! No more sucres? No. As for paper money, it's US dollar notes only. In terms of coins, Ecuador uses the US coins (I read that the $1 coin is quite common there ) but they also have their own centavo(s) pieces. Same "setup" as in the US (1, 5, 10, 25, 50 c) but the alloys, sizes, etc. are somewhat different. Those Galapagos "coins" however ... caveat emptor. Back when I was trying to collect everything from everywhere, stuff like this was my obsession. I am so grateful that I get my head out of my arse and began to focus on a more realistic goal. De Orc
Have to say that I might be tempted to buy them as they make good talking point when showing a collection to a non collector or younger person
SlavicScott
How far did you go? I mean, how many coins u've collected to realize this? At one point, when I was trying to collect everything listed in Krause- every type, every date, every mintmark, etc, my collection had over 12,000 coins. Have sold off the bulk of them, still have a lot to get rid of.
Lithuania
OK. I am at 10 000 different by type! And it's still growing though I am now mainly orientated on the Eastern Europe coins, time to fill in the gaps with the more expensive coins.. Have you got a list of coins u want to get rid of?
