De Orc
A late but very welcome arrival this is my first private issue from a English Bank Stamford, Spalding & Boston Banking Co Ltd £5 3rd April, 1902 Black on White Signed by ? Young for the Company Rev quite heavily countermarked #L9445 Bit of the Banks History The Stamford , Spalding, Boston and Lincolnshire Banking Company Limited came into being as a joint stock bank with this title in 1880. It carried on issuing its own notes into the early 20th century when it finally merged with Barclays Bank. The Stamford Spalding, Boston and Lincolnshire Banking Company never went bust. When the merger occurred, the whole note issued was honoured by Barclays. To show this had been done each note was given a V shaped cancellation cut over the signature area. Stamford & Spalding Joint Stock Banking Co – 1831 Stamford, Spalding & Boston Banking Co – 1836 Became “Ltd” in 1874 Branches = 38 Taken over by Barclays – 1911 Please have a look and let me know what you think of it
