Beautiful note, but at €2800, well out of my budget.

I am planning on purchasing the Borna Barac catalog for Christmas. I would guess that he would have a value listed. If you still need a value in about a month or so, let me know.

I really need an quatation. I can find nothing in Romania...

This is the rarity of this note. It is not shown in the catalogue...

This is actually whats known as a remainder. These notes usually are less in value than an issued note, but in this case, the catalogue lists only dashes for for the amount under conditions Good and XF and "Rare" for Fine condition. There is no listing for any other condition. The real question would be: what do the dashes indicate? Are they that there is no known example, no current available estimate, or that there is no point in listing it?

Given that there are examples where the Good and Fine are priced, but the XF has the dashes, I would say that there is no current available estimate that they are comfortable in giving.

For your note, listed as a remainder and listed as P8c (the date would have been 1884) the fact that the Fine condition is listed as Rare would lead me to believe that you should try checking past sales at auction houses like Heritage and the like. This would be the best way to get a good price estimate on it. For your convenience, I have searched Heritage Auction Gallery for this note. They have not sold it before, nor have they sold many Serbian notes in the past - Link - Sorry. But you should search other auction houses for their histories - you just might find one. Good luck!

For something that is genuinely rare, what you want to do first is not to find out the value but get the right people to certify that it is a genuine note. From there, you might be able to find some people that is willing to give you some figures. Perhaps you might want to google some Serbian banknote specialists. Unfortunately I don't know any experts on this.

You might want to keep it for a LONG time. Who knows what the value will be years later.
