  1. hello can someone tell me if buying  1870-1890 morgan certified silver dollars in the m-64 range are a good investment . thank you

In general we focus on coins as a hobby and avoid discussions on investment. Coins, like any funding optional marketplace, are very subject to the whims of the economy. In other words - don't count on it.

My personal viewpoint is that I would not in anyway rely on slabs as a means of holding future value. Companies come and go. Reputations fall.

  2. Wow Art, you certainly go full force.  Beauties!

Yes. I had sold some stuff to gather money for a few Indian Heads that I wanted. I was going to go to the Atlanta show or maybe even the ANA show and look for them. BUT, as life will have it, I was not able to go to Atlanta and I'm really sure that I won't make it to San Francisco. So I decided to give my Large Cent collection a kick-start. I also purchased a bunch of the books that I need and paid my dues for Early American Coppers.

    Books:

    Breen Encyclopedia of Half Cents

    Breen Encyclopeida of Large Cents

    Penny Whimsey

    The Cent - John Wright

Late Date Large Cents - Grellman

The books were a big chunk of change. But they're great. I'm just starting the learning process for these wonderful coins. Having the Grellman attributed coins may have cost a few more bucks to start, but it gives me something to compare against the books and learn from.

There - was that wordy enough?

  3. 100 UNC to each block, serial no. consecutive: $20.00

100 UNC to each block, a bit out of order: $19.00

100 UNC-AU to each block, possible a bit out of order: $16.00

For each extra block you buy lower the price $2.00.

Are these the famous 50 Intis or do you have other denominations?

    ;)

  4. Let me suggest another market that may net you 75 cents or a dollar a roll, if they are truly BU, ie not covered with spots or verdigris, Elongated cent collectors. They want the pre-Zinc lincolns and will often save them from circulation and clean them. SO....

There's a nice forum for elongated collectors on Yahoo. You may want to try there, or put some rolls on ebay intended for elongated fans or squished penny folks.

  5. Well, an addition to my type set came today...

Now, I only have these left to complete it:

    Coronet Half Cent 1849-1857

    Capped Bust Half Dime 1829-1837

    Shield Nickel 1866-1867 w/rays

    Liberty Seated Quarter 1866-1891 Motto

Liberty Standing Quarter 1916-1917 Variety I

    Liberty Seated Half 1853-1855 w/arrows

Liberty Seated Dollar 1840-1865 No Motto

    Liberty Seated Dollar 1866-1873 Motto

Almost there. That's a nice typeset you're building.

  6. My first was a Whitman album 1959 - 1974, my dad started it the year I was born and I continued to fill the holes until 1992.

Ikes is a good album, everything is affordable, and it has a couple stumbling blocks with the 1976 varieties that you have to look a little harder for.

While I agree with Tiffibunny that the Ike album is a great one to start with, I'd suggest the Kennedy Halves album - the one with proofs. If you are going for circulated, reasonable grade, you can actually get most of the coins from the banks. But it's still work. You'll have to find the proofs at auctions and such.

    Enjoy.

Of course, if you want a real challenge - go with Indian Head Cents.
