  1. Some of my newest additions...... Another 1797 twopence to add to my collection, I already have one but the price was too good to resist. Charles II Halfgroat 1683/2 - it looks like the obverse was possibly struck using a corroded die, can anyone confirm this? James I penny - Spink lists 2 types featuring the bust of James I (first and second bust) can anyone tell me which bust this is? Elizabeth I seventh issue halfgroat, mm 1 - a very nice little portrait. I hope you like them, there are a few more to come later on tonight.
  2. Very nice little coin Clive, I also really like the Irish Henry III you posted in the medieval coins category. Ive got a nice litte James I half groat and also a penny, I will have to post them somewhere.
  3. I know 1562 has already been and gone but here's another one anyway. 1562 Elizabeth I milled sixpence
  4. Now im not sure if this is 1568 over 7 or 1563 with a scrape that makes it look like an 8. What do you rekon? Anyway it is an Elizabeth I threepence.
  5. They are nice little coins, good luck on acquiring the one you are bidding on, is it on ebay? I like this one, it has been slightly double struck around the face and as a result the Queen has 2 eyes and a double chin!
  6. Just out of interest, does anyone know how much a 3 shilling bank token such as the 1811 one pictured above should weigh? I know silver prices at the time were high and as a result these coin types weighed less but I don't know exactly how much less. Anyone know?
  7. A Cnut penny, quatrefoil type (1017 - 1023) a lovely little coin
  8. Yeah me too, at first I didnt really go after and Victorian coins as they seemed a bit too modern for me but the designs and relatively low prices have won me round!
  9. 1887 double florin with roman I in date
  10. As far as I know, in the early 1800's there was a lack of silver coinage in circulation in England. So the bank of England issued bank tokens, there was a dollor (5 shillings) which was made by striking over Spanish 8 reales coins which were purchased from the Spanish government for this purpose, there were also countermarked spanish 8 reales coin which were stamped with the head of George III. Then there were the 3 shillings tokens like this one and also 18 pence and 9 pence tokens. I think these tokens were only in circulation for around 10 years before being withdrawn. Still an interesting part of British numismatic history though, and im sure someone more knowledgable could add to this explanation!
  11. George III 1811 3 shillings bank token, quite a nice grade too!
  12. An Elizabeth I second issue groat, mint mark martlet which dates it to between 1560 and 1561.
  13. Lovely coins Clive, I especially like the Aethelred II longcross penny!
  14. Im glad you all like them. with a bit of luck there should be more on the way.

So in no particular order: 1746 George II LIMA Half Crown - one of my all time favorite coin designs. 1799 George III Half Penny Another 1799 George III Half Penny - this is the type with 9 gunports, it also has a large die crack on the reverse. 1613 James I Half Groat 1835 William IV Quarter Anna
  18. Hello, how do you get the link from omnicoin? everyone seems to have a http://www.omnicoin.com/coins/ address where as the only one I can find to do is http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view_enlarge.aspx Any help would be great as I would like to enter a couple of coins.
  19. You should start a thread maybe and put up some pictures of your type set if and when you have time, i would very much like to see them! haha yeah I love it when the mailman comes, especially when like you, I have more than one coin expected to arrive, then its even more fun wondering which one it could be. I should be getting a couple this week I hope. I would imagine your slower paced method will work better as it will allow you to take stock of what you have and will allow you to get more for your money. Which coins are you going to be getting in the post? As for your ebay coin that hasn't shown up, if you payed with paypal then you have nothing to worry about as they always refund you if you pay for something which does not then get delivered.
  20. Thanks for the comments, the coins are my pride and joy! How is the type set going? There are certainly plenty of wonderful coins to collect in that period! It is also relatively easy to pick up some nice coins from pre 1800 without breaking the bank, I tend to not set out to buy a particular coin but to buy what I think is a bargain, it has worked very well so far.
  21. A George V 1917 halfcrown, I like the reverse of this coin, very attractive.
  22. 3 Edward III groat, a pre, post and treaty period type. Firstly a pre treaty period series D groat with a broken cross 1 mintmark. Secondly a treaty period type with an annulet before Edward. And lastly a post treaty period groat.
