  1. Today's coin is one of my favorites....it only grades MS64RB...but their is nothing ordinary about this little Indian... Green is the rarest color of toning on copper.....and no I don't mean corrosion
  2. For today's installment......how about a Roosie ANACS 1958-D MS66
  3. For your viewing pleasure today...let me present...this little gem:
  4. That would explain the curvature of the piece as well and most of these are flat with just the design pushed out.
  5. Never thought of it that way.....and I have never tried to lick the coin to taste the rainbow
  6. It could be a legitimate Double strike error coin, but have an altered 1942 date that now appears to be a crude 3?
  7. Ok....today's coin is........ PCGS 1958-D MS66 FBL I picked this coin up from Fun this year and it's one of my favorites in my collection!!!
  8. I am in contact with the seller right now over on the NGC forum.....I advised him that he should send the coin to ANACS for authentication as it looks like after mint alterations on that coin. I am 100% sure it's not legit......but I think for the cost of submission it is worth it for the seller to have a little piece of mind that the coin is not what he thinks it is.....
  9. Probably 50% Ebay.....and then Heritage, Teletrade, BWRC (Brian Wagner Rare Coins) Northest numismatics....etc. I also go to local shows and pick up some nice stuff from dealers
  10. Ok...I am going to try to save my toned morgans for the other thread.......so here is a nice little Gem + Specimen I cherry picked off Ebay. I comes with a neat story as well.... I saw this one listed on Ebay probably an hour into the auction.....it had a BIN that was dirt cheap considering the grade..... It was in an Old PCI Photo Certified Slab and was graded MS66. I think the secret is out on these old slabs now in that PCI could actually grade back in the 80's and early 90's so an PCI MS66 back then has a good shot at being a NGC/PCGS MS66 today. The seller was a Vintage watch dealer and did not sell coins for a living so he set his reserve at just over $100 dollars. He included excellent pictures of the coin...and I could tell right away that miss Liberty had one of the cleanest cheeks I had ever seen on a Morgan. I figured if the coin was an MS65 then I was paying about market price for it, but if it was indeed a 66 then cha ching. I hit the BIN and then waited for the coin to arrive. It was as advertised and it was one of those few almost completely white coins that you could tell had not been dipped or messed with.....luster for days.....and very clean surfaces. It was a Lock MS66 and if not for a few marks on the reverse......might have had an outside shot at MS67. I took the coin with me to FUN in Fort Lauderdale this year to get some opinions on it. Everyone that saw it including David Hall said it was a 66 so I submitted it PCGS and about a month later...it arrived housed in a new PCGS MS66 holder The interesting thing was that I shopped the coin around while still in the PCI holder and dealers wouldn't touch it....heck they wouldn't even look at it? I guess the old addadge held true in this case...I bought the coin and not the holder........so my $100 bucks turned into probably $400+ if I were to ever sell it. Sorry for the long story but I feel the history or pedigree of a coin is as important as the image posted The spots of toning that are visable are almost invisable on the coin...but for some reason the scanner made them really stand out?
  11. Now there's a familiar handle......what's up buddy!!!! Yes finally made it over here after the crash
  12. I'm not worthy...I'm not worthy.......Thanks for the compliment and I appreciate you checking out my auctions!!! I don't have anything up right now.....but I do like to sell pretty coins and key issue comics when the urge hits!!! Fortunatley, I have a full time job so Ebay is just a play money thing for me. I do have a pair of Toned 1957 Dimes NGC MS66 that I haven't listed...their a matched pair out of an original 1957 mint set. If you are ever interested in something in particualr just shoot me an e-mail and maybe I have something that would interest you Sorry not trying to sell things on the forum.....just interested in meeting new coin weenies like myself!!!
  13. We need to get this Museum alive and kicking so let me start by posting some toners of different denominations. If you have any to add...please join in the fun!!! I will start by posting a different coin daily
  14. Toned coins are my specialty....but I have been on a Proof IHC kick lately....they are very addictive
  15. It not unheard of to pay several times great sheet for nicely toned examples......in some cases even 10X to 20X grey sheet would be needed to sucure the best of the best. ATing isn't a huge problem with the Proof Indian Head Cents though anything is possible. Most of the AT IHC's I see are Business Strikes.......now their are tons of AT'd pieces being hocked on Ebay. Sometimes lightly cleaned Business strikes will take on a proof like appearance with some nice coloring. Even I have been folled before which is why it;s wise for beginners to stick with certified examples of nicely toned coins. The TPG's aren't perfect, but they catch a high percentage of the AT stuff being sent to them.
  16. Thanks a lot Ray......I have seen a lot of nice coins over here...............I have plenty more to share so keep an eye out for color
  17. A lot of these old proof Indian Head Cents were wrapped in tissue paper and stuck in coincabinets or desk drawers for decades. The sulphur in the tissue paper cause the copper to oxidize and turn pretty colors.
  18. Thanks for posting the image....I am the new owner of this piece......haven't received it yet but I always wanted one after seeing that Dime a while back. From what I am told....Morgan's are extremely rare to find and the piece is circa 1900's.
  19. BWRC sent me this today.........very pleased as it is now the center of my Toned Proof IHC set!!!!
  20. This is my first post here and I have no earthly clue if I am allowed to post in this section since I don't see any others....but a US Copper Museum would not be complete without images of Proof Indian Head Cents........so let me post a few and hopefully others will join in 1887 PCGS PR65RB 1897 NGC PR65RB 1907 NGC PR66BN 1909 PCGS PR65RB I hope you all enjoy
