Lil fun fact - From 1961 to 1982 that lil 1/10 oz gold was 1 Rand back then, it was switched to a nickel coin the same year (1982), and brought back to a gold coin know as KrugerRand

Actually, no. The gold South African 1 rand and 2 rand coins of 1961-1983 were decimalized versions of the old half sovereigns and full sovereigns. Like their predecessor SA 1/2 and 1 pound coins, and contemporary British sovereigns and half sovereigns, they were by then NCLT coins stuck for the bullion market.

The K-Rand and its fractionals, first made in 1980, is a completely different series altogether.

The first modern circulation issue large size rand coins were struck in silver (1965-69) and then in nickel from 1970 onwards.

Very nice. Ducats are nicely designed coins. I don't have any in my collection right now but I've had a few over the years and always enjoyed them.
