bill
This post could go several places, but since I collect medals, it has to go in exonumia. The US Mint struck medals in a government exhibit at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. There are records of two unique pieces struck on a large cent and one struck on a silver dollar. Thanks to a good friend and dealer who specializes in Columbia Exposition material, I was able to acquire the overstruck large cent for my collection. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance when it was presented to me. There are other medals overstruck on US coins, but those are done outside the mint by private operators. This piece had to have been struck by US Mint staff in the mint exhibit at the exposition with US mint equpment and US mint dies.
