sigistenz
Hi folks - very low resolution was necessary to get under the 100kb required to upload. Coin pictures (not the coins!!) needed to be brightened up to show clearly. I hope you can see what I mean. I assembled 4 matching pairs of eagles for 1778 and 1779 Are there more pairs? Is there a matching eagle of 1778 for my final 1779 eagle? Thank you, Sigi click on the little picture below to enlarge it
alexbq2
I don't know, but I doubt that there would be a 4th matching pair. Does anyone know why it was necessary to update the eagle design at Ekaterinburg mint every 10 years?
one-kuna
mint masters and their team could have been changed ?
alexbq2
mint masters and their team could have been changed ? Maybe, but looks like Kolyvan Mint was in synch with Ekaterinburg. Ekaterinburg introduced the above style somewhere in 1778-1779, and then replaced it in 1788. Kolyvan used it from 1781 to again 1788. Which I think suggests some more global or "prescribed from above" reason for the change.
alexbq2
Caught this transitional type (1778 style eagle). Does not appear to be easy to find.
sigistenz
Congratulations, Alex - this variant is indeed difficult. Sigi -
