macava
Can someone please let me know if the values shown in this guide are Canadian or US dollar? I can't find any verification in the book anywhere. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
ccg
Welcome to the coinpeople, macava! In response to your question: It's in Canadian dollars. However, please note that it is: 1. A "general" dealer-buy price-list 2. There are specified grades for each coin type in question (usually VG or VF) As a result, the book IMO is of little practical use. For a number of items (especially military), if I was offered the price listed, I would be considerably offended. Two much more useful catalogues on Canadian coins are: Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins (Cross) Coins of Canada (Haxby)
macava
Wow, thanks for that info! I'm very new to the world of coins, and am actually helping someone with the sale of their coin collection. Are there any good online resources for checking current private sale value of Canadian coins? Thanks
ccg
None that I'm aware of. Coins can be very tricky, especially if you're new, and not too familiar with grading, or spotting minor varieties which could sometimes make a huge difference. If you ever have any questions, feel free to stick around and ask. There's a number of members here with expertise in various coin and related fields! ccg
I was thinking, J & M (jandm.com) is a dealer with an online pricelist which couls be used as a rough estimate of retail value.
unicorn
You could also go to a local coin dealer and see if they have the coin paper that is put out each month and that has the upto date prices of what most things are worth.
