silvergoose
hey, i found a 1976 cent today and it had a weird printing on it. directly above the date was printed an outline of Vermont with the letters VT inside it. i was wondering if any of you know whether this is a special coin of sorts, or just someones idea of a funny "prank" i guess is the word. please let me know. thanks a bunch. --Silvergoose
bobbycoin
Not a prank, more of a novelty. These are sold in magic shops and such. They are stamped after the mint with the state or whatever. There are examples of these for each of the fifty states. It is refered to as a counterstamp. Another common one found has a small bust of Kennedy staring back at Lincoln. I have a Red 1964 with Lincoln smoking a pipe -Bobby
Guest Stujoe
People seem to find these things in change from time to time. I have seen them in magazines, shows, tourist shops, etc but I have never snagged one from change. Welcome to the forums, btw!
