gxseries
Exceeding rare, only 29 were minted in that year for some reason. I can't really remember why, but the reverse design too didn't last too long either. The largest denomination of all minted around that era and also the oddest, 20yen, these didn't get to survive too long as Japan was forced to modernize very quick from western invasion till the First World War. As you can imagine, these are getting rarer each year and still a very hot item. The following link here is on ebay but it is a ridiciously well made official copy of one of the rarest gold coins minted. Auction link I sure wouldn't mind it's proof-like features though... Nevertheless, you can take a look at Clark's homepage at CoinVault.com in his "Japan" section. Really expensive coins but looking at them is sure free... Tiffibunny
Now, here's something that completely doesn't make sense to me. I love Asian things, pottery, textiles, artwork, movies, design, etc. However, for some reason I don't care for any of the coins at all. I haven't found one Asian coin I really care to own. I don't understand it.
gxseries
How about this: there just happens to be too much counterfeit "Asian" coins.
