sotek85
Hi, My grandparents in a tidy up have recently found an old bank note, and I was just wondering if anyone would be able to identify it. I would be very interested in knowing where it is from/how old it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Regards Greg
Saor Alba
It is post WWI France small denomination currency because of coins shortage - note appears from Treport ville in France. Most these notes are fairly common because they lost value soon. So they are interesting but not worth more than maybe 50 cents.
sotek85
Hi, Thanks for the prompt reply and also the information. Do you know where I could find out more information on this? Thanks again, Regards Greg
Saor Alba
I wish I could, I bought some similar notes in Europe several years ago. They are not quite as common as the German Notgeld notes of 1918-23. Most if not all the references are in French, and unfortunately Russian and Spanish are all I know well outside of Engrish. Dave M
Are you looking for something specific for this particular note, or what? The only catalog I have is Les Billets des Chambres de Commerce, by Jean Pirot. It's in French, and I'd be glad to see if I can find something it you have a specific question. sotek85
Thanks Guys, you both have been very helpful. The French Banknotes website was very good, and I found what I was after. (I was quite interested in how the Chambers of commerce issued the notes) Thanks again, Regards Greg
