Ætheling
Aetheling.... what does "1/-" mean??? With decimalisation in 1971 we adopted prices such as; £3.20 or £1.00 Before 1971 when we had pounds, shillings and pence we used to notate it like this; £1/6s/5d, or £1 4s 2d or £1/2/5. If there was a price of 5 shillings and 9 pence it would be simply 5/9d or 5/9, if it was a round shilling it would be 1s or 1/- (the dash signifying 0 ). So if you see 2/- you know it's 2 shillings. thedeadpoint
ahhh. so 1/- is assumed to be a shilling and not a single pound? A single pound would be 1/-/- or 1/--?
