ScottO
1793 12 deniers, clipped planchet AND off centre, lyon mint. i need more information on this coin, how scarse etc?
frank
Gadoury lists no mintage for many revolutionary-era coins, including this 1793 D 12 deniers. Records were not well kept. But looking at pricing it's clear they're relatively common in G and VG --my 1981 edition shows 85 FF (= $15 at the time) for TB, très bon, but, like many of these often-used coins, prices jump at higher conditions: 300 FF in TTB (= VF) and 1000 in SUP (= UNC). I don't know how rare the errors are.
tmoneyeagles
Errors on this type of coin rare? Looks like a nice coin... Many errors reported?
ScottO
well hard to say how often an error can appear, i dont know where to find out how many reported error ones there are, i'm guessing there will be a fair few planchet clips, but the valuation seems very nice indeed considering i only got it for £3.20 because it was worded as a bit had fell off
tmoneyeagles
Well it is a very nice coin, and I'm glad you got it at a good price
ScottO
yea saw that going with no bids and had a shot, afterall had been seeing other coins of the louis eras going for a bit more then this sols etc) in conditions around this, the errors are the bonus and in some ways assisted, the obverse is good enough
