grivna1726
another one from the box I notice it was issued by the "Chambers of Commerce". In 1923, Germany was at the peak of a hyperinflation that ruined the people. Was there economic turmoil in France at the time as well? I'm just wondering why this was issued. Maybe there was a coin shortage?
YeOldeCollector
Have a look here: http://sceco.univ-poitiers.fr/hfranc/necessitePGM.htm Shortage of money during the 'difficult' years meant that the government had to act fast to prevent the traditional barter system from being used and so these tokens were minted. Thank you for the link. Google's translation helped clarify the portions of the French text on the original page which I did not understand. These could form a French collection similar to the better-known German emergency issues (notgeld) of that time.
