1910 5R MS-62

I have a 1910 5 Roubles certified by NGC MS-62, which I want to sell to pay for some other coins, but have no idea about the price of this coin. This date is pretty rare, I've never seen it on ebay and haven't seen it on any latest auctions.

Does anyone have recent sales prices for this coin in this or close grade?

bobh is your man for this question I think. I'd vote him the local Nicholas II gold expert.

Is it 5 or 10 roubles? You put 10R in thread title, but in the message you say 5R... :ninja:

I am guessing 5R would be more expensive than 10R for this date.

There were both 5R and 10R minted in 1910 (also in 1911), so it is a good question.

As to relative rarity, Severin lists mintage figures for both in his "gold and platinum" book:

5R - 1910: 200,018 - 1911: 100,011

10R - 1910: 100,018 - 1911: 50,011

We know that 10R dated 1911 were also struck in unknown quantities after the October revolution, which accounts for the fact that they are actually rather common and easy to find in higher grades. However, both 1910 and 1911 are scarce dates for 5R.

James F. Elmen had one 10R 1910 in the November 2007 "World-Wide Coins of California" auction, and there were two offered in the most recent (May 15). All of them were at least choice uncirculated (none of his coins are slabbed, though). The 2007 auction brought approx. $2,800 for that coin, and PR for the two offered this spring were:

Lot #313: $3,700

Lot #314: $4,200

I can't recall seeing a 5R 1910 offered anywhere during the past few years. I think there might have been one or two offered on eBay 2 or 3 years ago. In spite of the lower mintage figures for 10R 1910, I also tend to believe that 5R 1910 is probably scarcer.

To me it also seems like 1911 shows up way more often than 1910, but I see that Heritage just sold 1911 10R NGC MS64 for $3,737.50 two days ago.

Anomaly or what?

Although MS-64 is certainly going to command a premium over lower grades, I think it's probably too much. All it takes to achieve such high prices is to have two very determined bidders!

Sorry, to clarify it's 5 Roubles 1910 MS-62. I still can't find any recent sales figures for that one. I know that 10R 1911 is pretty common and I have several of these myself, it's not anywhere as rare as 5 Roubles 1910, 10 Roubles 1910 are also more common than 5 Roubles.

The most recent offer for 1910 5 Rubles in NGC MS-64 holder was about 2-3 months ago on e-bay. Ask was $4,000 (if I remember correctly) than a bit lowered by a few hundred. Still there were no buyers. I think realistic price for MS-62 1910 5 Ruble coin is anywhere in $2000-3000 range. IMHO.

That is correct. After coin has not sold seller posted it with reserve price and acton ended if I'm not mistaken at $3300 (with NO reserve met, probably reserve was aboyt $3500)

But After you check Resent Heritage prices I think 5r-1910-ms64 MUST cost not less than 4k

For ms62 grade it could be probably 2000-3000, but there will be always "crazy one" who will pay 4k even for ms62 :ninja:
