RW Julian
In October a seller in the UK offered the following 1730 ducat for $33,000, but it did not sell: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270174582278 The same seller then offered it again on eBay and this time it brought $3,050 but the seller backed out and it was offered to another bidder for $2,500. He declined: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270182280911 Now the same seller is offering this same coin twice (!) on German eBay, as follows: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270198663159 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270198506489 The same photo is used for the all of the above auctions. One of the current auctions ends on December 30, the other the following day. It is, by the way, a fake which has been published as such in the RNS Journal. It is also in an ANACS holder! One also has to wonder how the same coin can be sold in two different auctions. RWJ
Thee_Immortal_One
This brings up an interesting subject... Slabbed Fakes. I remember the Dassier Ruble fake that was slabbed and on ebay a few years back. What can be done to verify the slab is genuine and not a fake? And if genuine slab but fake coin then what should be done? Is there a running slabbed fake listing? It seems that relying on slabs isnt what it use to be. I am not sure if we are talking about the same piece or not, but several years ago a California seller on eBay offered a fake Dassier rouble in a PCGS holder. I called PCGS, who contacted the seller and the piece was withdrawn from sale. What happened to it after that I do not know. It was easily recognized as a fake because the large notch (or indent) on the wing (to the viewer’s right) of the eagle was missing. The holder in this case was genuine. RW Julian
Sold for EUR 1,232.00 (about $1,813.26). To a Dutch buyer with 0 feedback! This one has a faint odor to it and one has to wonder if the sale is for real. RWJ

RWJ I agree about the odor, but I'm not so sure I agree that it's "faint". By the way, I notice that the "selling price" gets lower with each subsequent offering.
