gxseries
For some reasons while I was in Russia back in 2003, I never found any 1, 2 or 5 rubles other than 1997 and 1998 (and except the commemorative 1 and 2 ruble coins) And even up to now, I don't see any new ones except a 1999 1 ruble and newly designed rubles in mint sets that I have seen. Did both Moscow mint and St. Petersburg stopped minting them and only mint them when necessary or they are just using old dies???
Scottishmoney
They mint huge numbers of the coins you saw in circulation and miniscule numbers of the coins you don't see. Same in Ukraine, the mint in Luhansk cranked out lots and lots of coins dated 1992-1994 and only rarely until 2004 did you see any other coin dates.
