gxseries
Not something I heard or know of, but it seems to be proof to me! Here is a comparsion of the "proof" coin to a UNC one: And if you look at the fields: Japan at that time were minting coins in the cheapest way possible, which you can see in the previous two years when Japan was reducing the aluminum content from the 5 and 10 sen coins. A proof coin is not something I would expect as it's usually more costly to produce! What do you think?
gxseries
Here is a batch of them: The "proof" coin is on the top left. The Reflectivity Test The coin is in the middle compared to two other relatively UNC coins.
josemartins
Sometimes aluminium coins get that PL effect when they're struck, nothing unusual (maybe those coins are "first strike coins" ... ) ) you never had a 1 Yen coin with the same effect?
