bill
Reorganizing the collection keeps revealling forgotten treasures. I was an exchange student in Germany in 1968-69 and I attended the 1000 km race at Nurburgring with friends. We camped near the Carosel Turn (the cars slow in a tight, banked turn where you can seemingly reach out and touch the drivers as they pass by). Two nights of partying, drinking, eating, and enjoying the atmosphere before the roar of the race and 1000s of additional spectactors swell the former camp into a race venue. I picked up this souvenir when we made our mandatory drive around the 13 mile track. One of those special memories of life. The medal is likely copper-nickel or similar alloy, low relief, cheap. The obverse features a generic GT racer, likely the Porsche 917. The reverse is a stylized image of the Nurburgring castle. The castle itself (for comparizon with the image).
