Minted in 1709 (AN8) "The Vatican leading, of the pope processions to the peace foundation between France and Austria" PORTAVERVNT TABERNACVLVM FOEDERIS Procession with banner representing the SS. Savior, led to shoulder from faithful and I continue from the Pontiff and monks; in exergue, MDCCIX This is a very scarce and historical medal. 40mm in size
  2. I do agree with you, as it looks mint state to me also. I've lost a lot of respect in TPGS, for gradeing 16th to 19th century German coins. I've gotten to the point that I will not send in any coins to PCGS or NGC. I can spot a fake when I see one, but I did like the protection that the slab gives.I now use Air Tight holders for all my coins. The only problem is finding a holder to put my larger Thalers of 70mm and larger in.
  3. This Thaler has a minage of 10,000. It is what is called a mining Thaler. The crossed hammers on the rev. is how you tell its a mining Thaler. From my German States collection.
  4. A little history about the Duke Augustus was the seventh child of Henry, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. After complicated negotiations with his family members and an intervention by Emperor Ferdinand II, it was agreed that he should inherit Wolfenbüttel, whose last ruler had died in 1634. Because of the Thirty Years' War, he could not move into his residence until 1644. Augustus instituted a number of government reforms, and founded the Bibliotheca Augusta, a large library, in Wolfenbüttel. Under the pseudonym Gustavus Selenus, he wrote a book on chess in 1616, Chess or the King's game, and o
  5. One of the commemorative Talers (Thaler)from my collection. DATE:1666 MINT:Gosler MINT OFFICIAL:Henning Schluter (1626-1672) RULER:August II (1634-1666)
  6. 1888 German 5 Mark Mintage: 200,000
  7. I've not changed my collecting habits. I still collect 1700 to 1918 German commemoratives graded by PCGS, NGC and ANACS. I do not buy every week like I use to.
  8. There was C mint marks. Here is a list of German states that used the C mint mark. Cassel (Westphalia) 1810-1813 Clausthal (Brunswick) Clausthal (Hannover) 1813-1834 Dresdan (Saxony) 1779-1804 Frankfurt (Germany) 1866-1879
  9. I think the IND: on the coin stands for India.
  10. Nice coin Mark. Whats nice about the San Fran minted coins like yours, is that most Morgan strikes were good and strong from that mint. As I said, MOST. The Morgans on a whole were not the best struck series. But when one is found, WOW! New Orleans minted Morgans were.... let's say weakly struck. But when a strong strike is found, they do demand a nice premium price in mint state. New Orleans minted Morgans are the most debated in the series when it comes to grading because of the difference's in striking. Now adding PL and DMPL into the equation and there are higher premiums to be had in stro
  11. Bingo Mark, you got it MS63, but it is DMPL. I do think NGC undergraded it. It has nice clean fields and the cheeks are clean. I will never pass up an 1879-o DMPL when I can find one. NGC states a pop of 86. I do not know if I can trust that number or not. But I do like the returns that one brings.
  12. Mortyr2012, Give me a day, and I will take some detailed pictures of the mint state grades MS-60 to MS-67 Morgans for you. I have spent $5,000 on Nikon marco equipment just for coin pics. So it will give me more time using the stuff. I will let you know when I'm done taking the pics. I do like to help out the collectors when I can.
  13. Just got this one today. I know there are some very good Morgan graders on this forum. http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=911539 I will post a pic of the coins slab tag after someone gets the grade.
  14. Is this a Vam ? the Morgan is an 1881-cc. The eagle looks to have something sticking out of his mouth. I have never been up on the Vams. About time to buy the book. http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=911439
  15. grimm, Look anything like this ? http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=911430
  16. Thanks Art. It has taken a-log time to get collection this going. To Dockwalliper: Yes I do have a registry set.
  17. My Morgans got here today, take a look. The first pic is of some of the CC's I got. The second pic is about half a set of mint state Morgans. In all the years I have been a collector, I have always wanted to finish a whole set of Morgans. Look's like I may be able to. I have been slowly up grading some of the MS64's to MS65 and MS66's. I should have some doubles that may be up for sale. And thanks to all who were so nice to my daughter Melissa a few days ago. This is the best forum going. http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=911338 http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=91
