Has to wait until there is no hole in my budget! I have Hamvention in two weeks, and then I have to pick up tickets to the Senior Open, which is being played here this year -- I get to see the guys my age play, hitting a golf ball the way it's supposed to be hit!
Should be interesting -- John Daly just turned 50, wonder if he can get it together on that tour. He still bangs it a mile.
-
I want one of these so bad now.
-
Are they still doing the uncirculated S quarters? I thought that was a one-off.
-
Singapore 10c piece -- I don't recall the year. I have to wonder how these things get into circulation here sometimes.
-
They came in a couple rolls of dollars I picked up at the bank. One two weeks ago, then two in one roll last week. The rest were mixed pre-2012 Presidentials, miscellaneous Sacagaweas, and the stray SBA.
-
Great stuff (and great photography)!

I thought they stopped releasing the Presidential dollars to the public from 2012 onward, but in the last two weeks, I've had a Cleveland, a Teddy Roosevelt, and a Wilson, all Denver mint. Weird. Anyone else seen any of these?

Australia's managed a couple beauts - this A$2 struck on a washer:
Plausible, if the washer is roughly the same size as the blank, I can imagine one falling into the bin.
Harder to explain is this Australian 20c piece struck on a bolt (and a normal 20c blank):

Have you seen this one http://lincolncentsonline.com/Nail.html
https://sullivannumismatics.com/coin/pcgs-1c-nd-lincoln-cent-struck-steel-nail-ms-63 a bargain by comparison.
If I had nine grand to spare, I might consider that.
I just noticed that the Chinese forgeries aren't even current issue coins -- I see Seated Lib quarters and Mercs and a Wheatie in there. Well, no, I take that back, I see some Washington quarter reverses there... but the eagle back, which of course hasn't been around in almost 20 years now.
And aren't those nails in remarkable shape for being anywhere from 20 to 180 years old...

Fresh from China
Heh, I'll be very surprised if PCGS grades any of those.
I did go back and look -- the nail-dime was expected to go for $10,000, and ultimately went for $42,300. Wow.

I thought they suspended releasing the Presidential dollars to circulation with the 2011 James Garfield.
I just got a 2013 Teddy Roosevelt in a roll of dollar coins.

And this is coming from a Canadian!
Well, they're not used to a copper strip in the middle of their money; it should be white metal all the way through.
-
But they don't need approval to do it in gold? That's odd. I still say they should be reissued as general circulation pieces. Yes, they can even have the mint mark on the obverse, if they insist.
What's the point of commemorating something if the commemoration is only available to a few?
The main downside I could see to making them circulation issue is that modern coins are engraved so shallow. They'd look appalling at what's laughingly referred to as 'relief' on today's coins. They need to be properly sculpted, not mashed flat.

Miss your input already; I hope to see you back soon.

1935 Wheatie, 1957 Roosie, and a 2010 Canadian dime, all in one tray. Not a bad way to start the day!
-
Not in gold. They should be reissued as they were originally minted -- or even better, given a clad issue for circulation as well as collectible strikes.

Went to the bank to get rolls of quarters to feed the laundry. One roll had a 1994 Bermuda 25c piece in it.
And I innocently asked if they had any half dollars.
They had several rolls. Don't see those very often!

I'd also add that typically when I order coins on eBay, they are either already slabbed and graded like my Ikes, or things where the grade doesn't matter like my birth year set. I'm not sure that I would be comfortable adding to my unslabbed Jeffersons based on photos only.

I'll second everything everyone else has said so far, and only add that I never buy anything that would hurt more to lose in the mail than it's costing to buy. Other than that, I have never had more than minor annoyances come of online purchasing. There are a couple sellers I never use not because there was a problem with the purchased item, but because they added my email to their spam mailing list without my permission and started annoying me daily or weekly. Both were reported to their local BBB and no further contact has been had.

Hippie bird day!

This'd be my oldest with a certain date. I have an Elizabeth I sixpence, but I haven't nailed down which issue it is yet. I think it's 1571, but I'll hold off posting until I have something certain.

I have got to get me one of those. They're just gorgeous, and the standing Britannia is right up there with the Walking Liberty as a beautiful design.
-
So far they haven't, and HA isn't a little off the beaten path auction site. Surely they know about it by now. I don't think there's anything in it for the Mint to interfere in the auction. If a whole slew of dimes-on-nails suddenly appeared, then they'd probably have cause to act.

One of the news sites says there's a chance it was deliberate, but no one seems to know. I can't imagine how -- the machines that bang out business strikes go pretty fast. I wouldn't want to get my hand anywhere near the die and I don't see how a nail could have been fed with the other blanks.
