  1. I recently received an interesting 1811 2 kopek with an interesting mint mark. Are these common? Thanks, -mike
  2. I just ordered a copy of this book. It sounds terrific, just the types of coins I collect! Thanks for your work making this book happen! -mike
  3. Here is a triple struck 1820 2 kopek piece I recently acquired. I have several double struck, but no others triple struck, at least none that are triple struck and attractive as well.
  4. Thanks for your work putting this online! I learned a lot about counterfeits just by browsing through it! It will certainly be very useful for helping me avoid costly mistakes! -mike
  5. Higher resolution of crown.
  6. Higher resolution of crown.
  7. Another coin for show and tell. Not much to tell, except that it is very attractive. -mike
  8. Hi al, Pardon if this is general knowledge, I'm rather ignorant on the history of the coinage of this period. What is the conventional explanation for these die pairings? Are there any good speculations on why such coins exist? Why would these eagle dies be retrieved to make coins? The dies are not particularly attractive or special in any way that I can tell. It seems rather odd that they would be needed. Thanks, -mike
  9. This coin was offered to me by a coin dealer who knew I was seriously collecting Russian copper. All I know is that my dealer friend said it came from another collector, and that the collector clearly knew what it was and that it was very rare. Sorry, but that's all the background I have. -mike
  10. Another recent acquisition for show and tell. Expensive, but attractive in hand. -marsmike
  11. Dear extant4cell; Thanks! The coin is more interesting that I expected. -marsmike
  12. Hi all, Thanks for your very interesting comments on the weird denga/kopek piece! I collect contemporary counterfeits, but don't have any of this era. So this becomes an interesting centerpiece of that collection. Still an ugly coin! -mike
  13. Hi all, I just received a very unusual overstrike that I had not seen before, pictures attached. How rare is this? It can't be common or I would have seen one before. But I haven't really been looking. --mike
  14. Just got another error of the same period. Now a 2 kopek. -mike
  15. Hi RuslanK, Wow! You are good. I couldn't get nearly that far. But it is interesting that it is a 1748, as I have 2 other wide off-center strikes of that year, but not nearly as much off-center as this one. Thanks for your help! -mike
  16. One more error for show and tell. It is my favorite error. But this one is a bit of an attribution challenge. Any help out there? -mike
  17. Yes, a denomination error set from this period would be interesting, if not unique. I suspect I'll be able to find a nice 2 kopek of this type of error eventually. I was offered one recently, but it was ugly and I was suspicious that it was false. I also have a polushka of this period about 60% off center, but not double struck. Here is one more recent buy, same period but different type, however it hasn't arrived yet. Cheers, -mike
  18. Just thought I'd share a couple of coins I won in the January Goldberg sale.
  19. Hi Sigi; Yes, I bought this overstrike on eBay. But I haven't received the coin yet. I was a bit hesitant because of the price, given that it's such a flatly struck piece. But I don't have one and it does show much of the under type. When it arrives I'll try to figure out the original coin, but I'm not optimistic. If I can figure out the original coin I'll post here. Best,
  20. Thanks for your nice comments. They were a bit more expensive than I expected. I won about 1/3 of the lots I bid. Did anyone else here win anything? -mike
  21. Hi all; I'm new here. I won 4 lots in Sincona 19. Three attached here. One in the next post. -mike
