  1. Those are some beauties for sure! The Uruguay note I especially like because I know how hard it is to find in decent condition :ninja: Thanks for the huge scans, it is amazing to see them with such detail.

Are you back in the collecting fold? Welcome back, or welcome still here, however you like...

  2. Thanks! Those are really neat. Not just the beautiful engraved scene, but the idea that a banknote can have a reverse with virtually no other writing on it, almost as if they decided the back is really "extra space" and they might as well just use it for a nice picture.

  3. Thanks, DAVE, I save it for the next opportunity.... I must admit that I am constantly amazed in your ability in finding these lovely notes. My sources around the globe can not help me,and my want list is for ever glowing....BTW, once again thanks for sharing your wonderful notes and for all to enjoy.....and dreaming about it.... :ninja:

Thanks Madison, though from the various notes you've been posting here, it seems to me that you're finding some treasures as well! I have a long want list as well. But not filling it saves me money, and keeps me "in the hunt". I would hate to be "done" with the collection.

  4. I know that Tunisia was a French Protectorate, but I still find it interesting tha the German army woudl issue bank of France notes in Tunisia and have to have the overprint obscuring Bank of France and then one stateing Bank of Tunisia, then obscuring Cent Francs and one stating Mille Francs. I wonder what the conditions were that made it easier to do that than to reissue Tunisia notes, even with overprints. I suppose simple logistics in wartime North Africa.

Nice note though. I've not seen it before - is it scarce?

My French catalog lists it as "Rare", and neither it nor SCWPM give it a value above XF. So yes in this condition I think it is fairly rare, though not extremely.

    From the French catalog:

The notes were overprinted by the French Vichy government during occupation, and only available between Feb 4 and April 15, 1934, and were withdrawn in May 1943 after Tunisia was liberated.

  5. Whew, I'm back!

Very nice Victor Hugo, Madison, though I'm really looking forward to seeing whatever Bonaparte note you get :ninja:

I am looking for someone who speaks French well, to translate my web site (www.FrenchBanknotes.com) to French. If there is some kind and interested person, please contact me. I've made a very brief start on it, just to make sure I can actually do it technically, but my French is poor enough that I'm sure the entire continent would be chuckling as they read it ;)

    Thanks,

    Dave

The fun of collecting notes are SEEING it, FEELING it, and KOWNING it , that it is in your possession.

Wow, beautiful notes, Madison! This Cameroon note is really nice, can you show the back? The French Indochina note is one of my all-time favorites. I like the various type faces used on these notes.
