I really wanted to ... but I was in Texas from the last week of Sept. until today (my Mom had her 90th birthday party!)
Happy B-Day to her! That's definitely worth skipping some auction for!!!

What you see is all he posted, and he is not at the auction - just getting some info second hand.
I'm surprised you didn't drive down there just to check out the coins! It's quite a collection...

Lot of family roubles lately. Kuenker had that set earlier this year. Big money too as I recall.
The rich get richer, ... and buy more coins!

Yet another in this series of fakes sells on eBay. 5 kop 1851 BM sold by milanbase for $88.50:
-
Not my list
Information comes from a 3rd party, so it is not complete (just highlights?) and may not be accurate. From the same source - only 2 lots were unsold in yesterday's auction.
-
#937 (Family Rouble) allegedly sold for 600,000

An identical coin is being sold on eBay right now by direktosssr: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330804181318
IMHO both are fakes!
He is also selling a fake 1793 2 kopeeks AM: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330804184054
It is a cast, it's twin was discussed here (need to login to see pictures): http://coins.su/forum/index.php?showtopic=92333
He is also selling a nice fake 1 kopeek 1756 MMD (IMHO cast as well): http://www.ebay.com/itm/330804174287
I'm not sure what to make of that denga, looks like it is from the same die as the coin from Leipziger, but not a cast clone.
-
This was sold at "Leipziger Münzhandlung und Auktion Heidrun Höhn" # 71
I guess it's a fake...
-
Didn't see that one
Congrats!

Yes, apparently that's the new record for any russian coin ever sold! 3.6 million swiss franks plus juice, what is that like over 4 million U$?

My anti-virus software blocks the page. Even after I try an override it refuses, saying the page has a malicious phishing link. Probably just as well I can't access it :-)
Yep, there was an attack on this site about a month ago, and I still get redirects sometimes when I try to access that forum.
Apparently someone stole account information for some users and instigated a massive fraud involving a fake sale of some expensive 18th century roubles. Not sure how that all ended.

I can see traces from eagles shoulders/elbows (upper wings) right around the 2 in denomination. A very pretty die clash you got there!
-
I should have guessed.....
Sorry you did not win the coin. And congrats on saving your money!
-
Works for me.
-
I agree, it could be re-punched. There are some traces behind the 8 but it is not clear.

Siberian 10 kopeeks 1767 with lettered edge just sold for over 2000 euro!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160891069760
Very surprising considering how murky the photos are. Coin might be corroded.

I'm a bit surprised. As I recall, russian coins in the early nineties were dirt cheap, prices started to pick up post 98. If you look at the 2001 Bitkin catalog it still wouldn't have made any commercial sense to make good fakes of 99% of coins listed there. I'm certain that there were good fakes made of some mega rare coins prior to present decade, but I would think that most of the auction sales pre 2001 are a fairly safe reference point.

Interesting my bid through Sixbid for 1771 was 10 CHF more than what it sold for. Maybe it nether got to Sincona.
The 1755 kopeek is lot 288.
Congrats on 286 a very worthy coin!
