  1.

Reading up on Masefield himself I came across this which is in regard to when he was Poet Laureate(1930 and later)

"Although the requirements of Poet Laureate had changed, and those in the office were rarely required to write verse for special occasions, Masefield took his appointment seriously and produced a large quantity of verse. Poems composed in his official capacity were sent to The Times. Masefield's modesty was shown by his inclusion of a stamped envelope with each submission so that his composition could be returned if it were found unacceptable for publication"

I will add this edit addition to the first post.

If he was that humble as Poet Laureate, then he almost certainly was before that time. I'd say the probability of your suggestion that his submission to the paper was a poem is correct just increased by several orders of magnitude.

    Impressively researched!

  2.

It would appear that the photo is quite grainy. My apologies.

The picture might be grainy but if you send me the Siberian piece then I promise that all will be forgiven.

Seriously, that is a lovely piece.

  3. Thank you to everybody ))

yes I have falled in love for this ruble since I have seen it.. !

By the way, this forum has enough space for the russian coins and i am happy of it

The Romanov Tercentenary rouble is also the only Russian coin you can get with a portrait of Michael Romanov.

  4.

The eagle and snake motif runs throughout Latin/South America, I see.

If you are referring to the to the 1879 Chilean decimo, a closer look at the coin (or a higher resolution photo) will reveal that the "snake" is really a piece of a chain that the Condor has broken. This is probably a reference to breaking the chains that formerly bound Chile to Spain (a metaphor for liberation and independence through revolution).

  5. got it.

Thank you BKB for getting this. The page still refuses to render for me and says

Perhaps there is a link on the page to an external site which I have blocked or depends upon a feature which I have disabled.

Once again, thank you for taking the time and trouble to post the image here.

  6. nevermind. I checked it and it is not in there. But, here it is:

the underdate is also not identified...

    Hello BKB,

I am having trouble with this link. When I click on it, I get a message saying "Система не смогла найти форум, которому принадлежит тема" which I think means that the forum does not exist.

Are you certain that the link is/was correct?

    Thank you.

  7. Congratulations to RWJ - I cannot think of a more deserving individual. His contributions to numismatic knowledge through his research and publications are multifaceted and extensive.

His contributions to the field of Russian numismatics are numerous and that is what he is best known for in this forum, yet he is even better known for his prolific contributions to US numismatics.

The award and recognition are deserved many times over! :clapping:

Lets congratulate our own Bob Julian with this honor.

    Well deserved !

  8. Hi! My name is Andrei Tretyakov.

I wanna share with you the web application I've created specially for coin collectors. It is called "Time Machine" and available via the following link: http://apps.creounity.com/time_machine/en/.

This webapp is a date converter covering 17 chronological systems. It is capable of converting year from any of the calendars provided in the app to the Gregorian calendar, and backwards (from the Gregorian calendar to a system you want).

With Time Machine it is very easy to find out the production year of your foreign coins.

Along with the converter itself, this app contains pieces of the explanatory texts that could help you understand how does the converter work, as well as learn some facts about chronologies' history and origins.

Time Machine is completely freeware for end users, and doesn't contain ads.

Originally it's been developed by me for Russian and Russian-speaking collectors, but today, on October 31nd, 2010, I've finished working over the translation, and now it has both English and Russian interface languages, all the converter-related articles are available in these two languages as well.

In the nearest future I will add 4 new chronological systems into the Time Machine. Some minor bugs will be fixed. A set of large-size images will be added to each system. Two additional functionalities are under development and I believe they'll be released by the end of 2010.

Have a good time with my "Time Machine", and happy converting!

Hello Andrei and welcome to Coinpeople.

Thank you for posting this most interesting and helpful web app. I have bookmarked the page in my browser.

  9. I bought this 5 kopek coin dated 1970 and this particular coin is a rather tough key date.

I didn't think much about this coin but was happy as it is a tough key date that I was looking for a while. However when I glanced at the photo I took, there is a "scratch" on the number "0" which for one second I thought was a possibility of a re-engraved 6 to 0. It would honestly suck but I have no other examples of a 1970 or 1976 5 kopek to compare it with.

    What do you think?

I think it might well be an altered date. The "0" in the date looks quite different to me from the "0" seen in the Wolmar coin posted by alexbq2.
