  1. Wow, this is interesting.

I just came here from Amazon where I had ordered:

5 copies of the 2006 Redbook. One for me, one for the coin club, 3 to give to the local library whos numismatic material availability is poor and I am trying to help it out.

5 copies of the 2004 edition of The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection Edition #2. One for me, one for the coin club, 3 to the local library again.

1 copy of The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, 2nd Edition. For me. I don't collect Buffalos, well, not yet anyway! :ninja:

  2. (Besides, I'm trying to convince myself not to buy it.  :ninja:)

Okay, I have to cry "foul" here!

It is directly because of your two threads "do you collect U.S. commemoratives" and the equally famous "do you collect world commemoratives" that I have bought 3 older commems and currently looking for a 1934 Texas and just ordered the John Marshall commem from the mint.

A loss of 25 post counts and 15 minutes in the penalty box!

  3. OK, OK Texas huh!

Dang, I live in New York State and close to the Canadian border, so where is my roll of cents?

I look and I look and I look, but not a one to be found!

How am I ever going to get any? :ninja:

Cross the international boundry line and go to the bank?

  4. Coin insurance. Do you have any? If you do, who underwrote it for you? Did you add it as a rider on your homeowners or renters insurance policy?

I know of only one collector who says they have insurance, and they got theirs after a theft occurred at their home.

If you do have insurance, did you have to submit a current inventory of your collection along with pictures to prove you had them?

Any information on this subject would be helpful. I believe my personal collection is just now reaching critical mass that needs two things, 1) a very good fireproof safe and 2) insurance covering acts of God and theft.

    Thanks.

  5. By BU, I'm guessing MS65+? I've sent many a UNC '64 Kennedy to the melting pot.

Yeah, MS65 or greater for the BU grades. Not proofs, as my local deals has dozens and dozens of cracked out proofs from mint sets. And on your UNC '64's to the melting pot, Yikes! Those are the nice coins he is getting $9.95 each for at Christmas time for gifts. If he likes you, he will flip them for about $8.50 each, so that is a lot more than melt.

I know it's foggy, but I got it as an extra in a large purchase.  I absolutely LOVE the eagle on this coin.  It's one of the very few Olympic Commems I can handle.

What is with the headless, legs cut off naked man and woman on poles?

The original Olympic's were all male events, and yes they participated in the nude, but they had legs and heads! And there were no naked women there. Must be a LA California thing.

  7. A. Indian Head Cent bronze 1864-1909

    B. Flying Eagle Cent 1856-1858

    C. Lincoln Cent 1909 - 1958

    D. Ike Dollar 1971-1978

    E. Liberty Head Nickel 1883-1912 (1913 if you count the unauthorized 5)

    F. Walking Liberty Half Dollar 1916-1947

    G. Sacajawea Dollar 2000 - date

    H. Shield 5-cent piece - 1866-1883

    I. Nickel 3-cent piece 1865-1889

    J. Lincoln cent - 1959 to date

  8. 1964 Kennedy halves, in BU condition, are selling for $15 to $35 each at local coin shops. 1964 Kennedy halves that have been run through about a 1000 slot machines are getting 4.5 times face here (melt value).

Run of the mill, nice looking coins for gifts at Christmas, etc. are commanding the standard $9.95 each price tag. So, even though you will not get rich on what your Grandmother gave you, it does have some real worth.

  9. This seller and shadowzen66 are the only sellers that I've found so far that sell Gallery Grading Company slabs. There is conjecture that these ID's are one and the same person and that person also owns GGC (or is creating the slabs in the basement). I have not seen one that looks like it was graded accurately.

At one point, I emailed both of these sellers asking about GGC. They both recommended that I look on the site. The location of GGC and the towns that both of these sellers are located in are about 35 miles apart. A little too coincidental for my taste.... :ninja:

Or brother's. Or father and son. Or any other combination of family you want to stick together. What's the old saying... "thick as thie...."
