There's a nice coffee table book about the Franklin Mint which included info on coins and medals. I used to have a copy, from the bargain book table, but gave it away. As I recall the title was simply 'The Franklin Mint'.
I've found that a well respected book on the subject makes a great gift. You'd want to check his library to get an idea of his likes and avoid duplication.
Hello and welcome to coinpeople. Professional appraisals are expensive. Most other appraisals fall far short of being realistic. It takes a lot of time and work to appraise a collection. Id start with a detailed list of holdings and then hit some auction sites and check the sold prices and subtract something - 20% for sales fees.
If you think you have two genuine 1893S Morgan Dollars, you should take them to a reputable coin shop for evaluation. Check the ANA website for dealers near you. THEN if they believe they are genuine send them to PCGS or NGC for grading. Genuine 1893S Morgans are uncommon and quite expensive.
