My post count would be much higher if I posted "nothing" every time I found nothing.
A high post count makes a CoinPeep happy. (At least this CoinPeep). I probably check these machines 4 or 5 times a month. I only post something when in the mood because all of you lucky folks are talking about your great finds. Sure pick on the guy with the low post count.

Thanks to everyone for their help in choosing a new id. I have mailed the prizes to the winners this afternoon. So when my new id (now Art2) gets to 56789 or maybe 45678 posts they'll be another contest like this.

They are a departure from the brighly colored notes we see from many places lately. Of the three the 5 Piasters is the nicest for my tastes.

I like the size of dimes. They make great piggybank coins. Gosh you can get so much money in a big pile of them. BUT I've never cared for the design of the Roos. Even in DCAM Proof, I find it unattractive.
I have most certainly changed my mind on this. I really enjoy the Roosevelts and especially find the PRDCAM coins attractive. Over time things can change, even me.

Don't think it was acid. Maybe electricity? Used as a fuse?
I think you're correct on that one.

Many lost images. I'll see about recovering what I can.

This is a metal detector find at a World War 1 Camp site. I found it near a trash pile from there. No idea what happened to it, but its in very rough shape. For the other finds see the first metal detector finds in the General Discussion forum. (Not much but I think it was interesting.)
Looks like it had contact with some acid?

That's truly a wonderful coin.

You really have got to love a Jefferson Nickel in silver.

Here's a nice full-stop Jefferson from my collection.
It's hard to tell much from this picture. I'll load a larger higher res image to flickr later today.
Here's the same coin from my flicr files at a higher resolution. I think it looks much better.

Of course no set of Presidential Dollars would be complete without George.

I'm planning to add a few notes from Ghana and a few MPCs this coming year. I always enjoy this thread and certainly wish I could contribute a bit.

I bought 8 rolls of Garfield dollars at the bank today...
Savers or spenders?

No pics, but I sifted through 9,000 dimes again. Why I do this, I do not know. I ended up with really dirty hands, two hours of sifting and up ending to check the sides and turned up six silver dimes. I was hoping against hope that I would find more silver than the last $900 I searched a couple of weeks ago. Seriously I have much better luck finding silver in nickels. I searched $1200 worth last week and found an 1894, see other post but 13 silver war nickels. I don't think I will be searching dimes too much, might do right after Christmas is over to see if people cash in their silver by spending it.
I have never had any luck in searching dimes or quarters. Not a single silver hit. Halfs are good to me. Nickels never produced much -- I do intent to try them again. Maybe I'll get a bunch tomorrow.

I had some "Reveal" bulbs that were pretty good for photography in that they were close to daylight temps. Never found them to be much different than the others I used in that all still need some white balance adjustment. Of course with film you could do filtering but man that's quite a hassle.

More nice coins Mark. I really enjoy circulated Walking Liberties. It's one of those designs that shows better with some wear. (IMHO of course).

Nice coins and pics Mark. I love the way good photographs of UC Proofs provide such wonderful contrast between the fields and devices.

LOL Just imagian how I felt when I opened it.

I'd like to take a trip through your old storage. WOW! My collection would be very happy with those.

Nice 2065 Jefferson Alan. You're a bit ahead of your time.

Both very nice buys. Must be a good coin shop that you visit.

Long time no blog. I've been busy and unfortunately have neglected my blog.
NGC Sets
I've taken a new approach on my NGC Registry Sets for Roosevelt Dimes (and will do the same for Jeffersons too). I duplicated the set and created two sets. One will contain only coins certified by NGC and the other only coins certified by PCGS. Along with this I've gotten to the point where some of my coin photos are acceptable, so I'm updating the galleries for each set with new (and improved) photos. My goal is to have each coin represented by a nice image of both obverse and reverse including the entire slab.
Photo Updates
I've been messing with photographing my coins for a while and still have not come up with a repeatable formula that I'm pleased with. The latest bunch are better than the older photos but still have quite a ways to go. The reduced sized images that I've stored on Omnicoin are ok but again I'm not really pleased with things like the obvious pixelation which is coming about in the size reduction software that I'm using. I did get a nice photo, finally, of my favorite Large Cent. Here it is.
Here's the same coin on flickr without the size reduction to accomodate Omnicoin.

Larger picture but the pixelation effect is quite different. One of the problems I'm having is the difference in white balance between the two images. Same setup exactly fro obverse and reverse. I'm thinking the auto white balance and color balance is getting changes because of the color effects of the hologram on the back of the slab. I'll be working on this. It is much more pronounced on the NGC slabs than the PCGS. The 43 Lincoln that I posted on Omnicoin is a better example of how badly the coins seem to be affected by the size reduction.
