  1. Here's a Jefferson War Nickel in an old ANACs slab. I liked the old ANACs slabs and have quite a few of my Indian Head Cents in them. I was not pleased when they switched to their newer format as they no longer fit the Intercept Shield boxes that I use to house my IHCs that are ANACs.

MS64 with 5 full steps. It's a pretty nice nickel.

  2. Well, not from the mail man, but I got all my Christmas and Birthday presents for myself at the coin show today!

This one is a die marriage I already had (and before you ask, I had my book with me and attributed it before I bought it, but these early dates don't show up too often, so I jumped on it while I had the chance!):

This second one is an overdate, 1817/13 and the more common of the two die marriages (actually, it's the same marriage, just a later die state with the die crack on the reverse going through the ME in American and down towards the wing, I really like this one!):

And here is the last, this one has some cool die cracks and it's an R-4 die marriage!

  4. That is correct. The same goes in Hong Kong for their banknotes from different banks, Scotland for their different banks, Ireland for theirs, etc.

The UK has some different notes issued for places such as Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Mann, Gibraltar, as well as Scotland and Ireland, that all have seperate notes. While these are pegged to the GBP, I've read in forum threads that the notes are not accepted in other locals, except where they are close by, ports, etc. where exchanges are readily made for their local flavor of currency. I believe this is due mainly to the familiarity of notes and fear of fakes floating about from too many different types.

Different notes from different banks, or issued in different locales makes for neat collecting though! More expensive, sure, but more fun as well.

I can see where it adds to the challenge of putting a set of notes together. That's fun.

  5. Yes. They are similar to Hong Kong and the Hong Kong-Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSCB) and Standard Charter Bank (SCB)issuing notes there. In Macau, there is no governmental banknote issuer, but two commercial banks are granted the authority to do so. They are the Banco Da China (Bank of China) and the Banco Nacional Ultramrino (the Portuguese bank with branches throughout the world and it's old possessions). Being an old Portuguese posession, the notes are printed in Chinese and Portuguese. As in other places, older notes may have been from other issuers besides these two. I have one small denomination note I posted earlier this month issued by the Kee Kwan Motor Road COmpany. That company is still in business providing transport between mainland China and Macau.

Thanks Dave. I did not know any of this. So the banks issue the notes under government authority. Value and trade-wise they are completely interchangeable - is that correct?

  6. This was sort of a crazy find, a dime that had been rotated in a dryer drum for several months and had upset rims, and three Jordanian coins - I could only identify them from the picture of King Hussein, they are dated 1991(2) and 1994. After looking at them more closely I can identify them as 5 Qirsh coins - they are larger than a quarter and worth about 8 cents each. First time I have ever seen coins from Jordan, and I wonder how they got here.

Interesting find. Any local coin shows recently?

  7. My post count would be much higher if I posted "nothing" every time I found nothing.

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: A high post count makes a CoinPeep happy. (At least this CoinPeep). I probably check these machines 4 or 5 times a month. I only post something when in the mood because all of you lucky folks are talking about your great finds. :sorry: Sure pick on the guy with the low post count. :sorry::sorry:

  8. I like the size of dimes. They make great piggybank coins. Gosh you can get so much money in a big pile of them. BUT I've never cared for the design of the Roos. Even in DCAM Proof, I find it unattractive.

    :ninja:

I have most certainly changed my mind on this. I really enjoy the Roosevelts and especially find the PRDCAM coins attractive. Over time things can change, even me.
